For those of you who have a crush that they don't get to see often or, like a celebrity or something.
Stargazer
On the bus, I saw the scenery outside the misted window in a smooth blur of dimmed darkness. Although the days were getting lighter, the late afternoon and early evenings still had navy blue skies with deep setting suns and a chill that reached your bones. The air would be a sharp shiver down your spine and when you breathed it in, a light haze would hit your head and make you lull back.
I drew scribbles and dashes in the condensation with my index finger, a tiny pool of vapour forming upon the tip as I pressed lightly on the glass. Sometimes my artwork was ruined by the water droplets smudging into each other as they descended in tracks downwards. I could see through the lines that I was nearing my stop as the bus dogged up the steep hill, trudging along in the setting darkness. I straightened up.
PING!
The smooth dip of the bell that my finger sat perfectly inside, had tiny bumps at the bottom for the blind, which I ran my thumb against, exhilaration building up in my chest. My head was thrumming slightly and my heart thumping against my ribcage as my knee bounced upon the dirty floor. I blinked.
As the bus finally slowed to a stop, I sprang up, striding to the door. My veins were flowing with gold and my lungs were filled with magic. Thanking the driver, I hopped off the bus, looking for the pavement as my foot hit the floor, followed by the other. I looked up, hearing the bus begin to drive on, and there he was.
I couldn't see him clearly as the lights on the bus were bright and out here was dark. The atmosphere was thick and heavy, so was ours. Our gazes connected - a unison. He stood, shivering slightly in the chill, with his hands in his pockets and his shoulders hunched over but when he saw me, his posture straightened and he took out his hands, his lips curving into a bright beam that reached his eyes. They twinkled with the light from the surrounding neighbourhood. I returned his smile.
"Hey, you feeling alright?" He asked, stepping forward so that there was a smaller gap between us. It thinned until his arms were around me. His embrace lit me up as I held him too. Burrowing my head into the crook of his neck, I inhaled the scent of his idiosyncratic homeliness.
"I'm good, thanks," I replied, our grip tightened before I stepped back, flustering, "you?"
"I'm all good," he said as he looked to the ground sheepishly, then back at me with a shy gentleness that showered me with warmth.
He was gazing into my eyes now, a softness in his features that made the tension on my shoulders rise and the knots in my stomach to loosen. The way he looked at me wasn't like how someone would look at the sun, but the way a stargazer would step back from his telescope and marvel the stars in the night sky as a whole. The way an photographer would watch a sunset in wonder and awe. The way a surfer would gaze at the ocean in admiration and desire.
Suddenly, a build up of the impatience and deep wanting grasped hold of me as I brushed my lips against his. They were cold but still soft and smooth. My fingers were combing through his hair from the nape of his neck, each strand grazing my skin as my grip tightened. His locks were soft like velvet. He was holding my face between his hands, his thumbs caressing my cheeks as he deepened the kiss. Our noses touched slightly, so I turned my head to side, my other hand slipped under his coat, gripping onto his shirt, a tight ball of cotton in my fist. My cheeks were heating up, our skin ablaze and lips hot. Ignition in my chest as my eyelids fluttered, feeling his fringe skim the top of my head. He drew away - a hot mess of tangled hair, scarlet cheeks and red lips. His eyes were even brighter.
His arms were still around my waist, hands linking at the bottom of my spine. Our breathes were heavy and made clouds of condensation in the foggy air. I looked into his dark eyes to find him gazing at me. His lips were curled into an eccentric smile, soft dimples forming on either sides of his mouth which I instinctively reached for with my thumb, caressing them and then, up along his cheek as I returned a shy smile.
"I've missed you," I said, as he held me in a hug once more. I could feel my eyes brimming as I drank in the feeling of his arms. The warmth and security of his embrace. The heat of his lips as he kissed the crown of my head.
"I've missed you too."
