I cheated.
As the others covered their eyes and counted tediously to twenty, I peeped through the gaps between my fingers and watched as he raced away from the field up towards the woods full of bluebells. Sardines was a bit of a stupid game and I really wanted to find him first because it'd mean we'd be, well...
Alone.
It was nice head start as I knew which way he had headed towards but I couldn't give my game away. So, as the others started running in different directions, I started towards the woodland around the side and made sure I wasn't being followed. Spring had bloomed and the trees swayed, the bluebells were fully blossomed creating a sea of purply-blue around me - their smell made me sigh as I inhaled through my nose.
Walking tentatively, I wandered around for a minute looking behind the trees and bushes until, within the forest of bluebells that grew unimaginably high, I saw a flattened patch where he lay on his back, staring up at the sky through the gaps in the branches. I smiled as I approached him unnoticed until I settled next to him.
"Was there anyone behind you?" He whispered, still gazing up at the sky.
"I'm pretty sure I was alone."
He grinned suddenly and faced me, his green eyes glistening with the rings of brown around his iris like a thick, foliaged forest just waiting to be explored.
And how I wanted to explore it.
"That's good, great in fact," he whispered, gazing into my eyes.
Our faces were merely inches apart - so close that I'd just need to lean in slightly to be able to kiss him.
But I didn't dare.
"Why's that?" I asked softly, my gaze travelling along the contours of his face.
He mirrored my action, lingering around my eyes until he came to a rest at my lips, "Because we're going to make the others lives a little harder."
I really truly thought that he was going to kiss me then, even if it was only a small one but instead he got up and took my hand, telling me to move quickly and quietly. We ran through the bluebells, checking around us for company, then stopped. He let go of my hand which was warm and tingly.
"This is easier than I thoug-"
Suddenly, he grasped my arm and dived behind a large oak tree trunk. A few metres away, we heard voices and we held our breathes.
"I've already looked here, common," a male voice said, the bluebells' stalks snapping as he started heading away.
A female voice was what answered, "you sure?"
"Yep, let's go."
She followed him, their footsteps growing fainter as the distance between us and them became bigger.
We gasped, finally able to make a sound and his breath tickled my ear from behind me. I suddenly realised that for the whole time, he'd been leaning against the tree with me in his arms, the top of my head just shy of his chin and hugging me tightly with my back on his chest. His hold felt stable and secure - I wanted to stay like this forever, feeling his chest rise and fall as he breathed and his heart beat through his shirt making shivers run down my spine. His hands were clasped around my forearms which were resting comfortably on my abdomen.
"Well, this is different but I like it," he whispered into my ear, creating another wave of shivers to run across my back, "and I like you."
I froze.
We stood there, unmoving for several moments before I took his fingers, which had travelled down my forearms towards my wrists and were rubbing my back of my hands, and detached them as he let them hang at his sides. Then, I slowly turned around so that I was facing him and let my gaze explore his stature up and up until...
I reached his eyes which were already staring deeply at me, his pupils dilating and gaze flickering as he, once again, traversed my features so intensely that I felt my cheeks flush. My arms drew around his torso, linking at his lower back.
"You like me?"
He swallowed nervously, "Yes."
My breath hitched and I felt the world close in on me. He likes me.
His gaze redirected on my lips, "Tell me what this feels like."
Suddenly, he cupped my face in his hands and leant down slightly so that he could reach my height. Our lips inching closer and closer until...
My senses exploded. No word could describe the sensation I was feeling that coursed through my veins, traversing my entire body. His fingertips brushing my cheekbones lightly while my hands instinctively reached up to clasp his arms. Then he broke apart, my lips pleading to be kissed again, and slowly traced his thumbs on my bottom lip, leaving a trail of warm tingles.
I tilted forwards so my lips were by his ear, "I'd call this addictive."
Then I stood on my tiptoes and laced my fingers at the nape of his neck, kissing him again but more deeply. He arched his back and wrapped his arms around my waist so that I could reach his lips easier. Our kisses were heated and every move his lips made, blazed my own making me want more. I craved his touch.
We let go, our breaths heavy as he hugged me and rested his chin on my head, "Can we do this again?"
I smiled against his chest.
"I'd love too."
