Karren’s pov
I looked at Logon expectantly, “So, how do you like the new leg?”
“It’s freaking amazing!” he answered me, smiling that handsome smile of his. I smiled back, happy I could walk around without crutches.
“So, you ready for today?” he asked me as we walked out of the docks at Brisbane harbour. He looked at me smiling, “It’s not every day you get to meet the Priminister.”
“Yes, tho I don’t deserve the award, I was just doing my job.” I replied as we stepped into the Government car.
“You’ll get use to it. Being in this unit, you get a lot of attention.” He replied.
“Where did every one else go?”
“Oh, they’re already on their way.”

We pulled up outside the gates of Brisbane’s military barracks. We both got out and were met by an honour guard. We were led onto the parade grounds in front of all the assembled military and political leaders and given seats on stage. I looked down the line to see we all wore what we had for the past few days (our uniforms, just ripped and covered in all sorts of shit). Sprayer, Archer and Spartan sat like they lived in front of large crowds. Next to them, and totally out of place, sat Triss. She couldn’t stop fidgeting. I know how she felt. I hate crowds. ‘That’s why I am the black op in this unit.’ I thought to myself, realising how try it was. I looked at Logon and, to my absolute surprise, he was asleep.
“Logon, how do you sleep in front of all these people?” I asked him.
He smiled, “I don’t. I just shut my eyes so I can’t see them. I hate crowds.” He replied. I smiled at this.
“How the hell can you not be afraid to rip of a mask when the gas surrounding you could be poisonous, run into enemy fire and jump out of windows over waves that could smash you to pieces, and your scarred of crowds? I said laughing.
“And don’t forget telling girls I like them.” Logon added in. we both laughed. After a little while, every one started quieting down. The General walked on stage and up to the microphone. Every one stood up as the next person came up the stairs.
“By god, the Priminister is actually here!” I whispered to Logon.
“Would every body please take a seat and we shall begin.” The General started. Instantly everyone was silent. The general continued, “We are gathered here today to honour the actions of one of the most ridiculed units. Some have called this unit, unnecessary. Others say this unit is for wannaby soldiers. But now, I think we have proven how wrong those people are. I would like to ask Logon Price to step forward.” I looked toward Logon as he stood up and walked forward.
“Thank you, general.” He said, “It is well known that my unit has performed some of the most difficult, and in some cases, deadliest missions, that the Australian army has ever tasked. I think very highly of my team. I trust every one of them with my life. I would like the Priminister to step forward.” He walked back over and sat back down.
“Nice speech.” I whispered to him.
“Thanks.” He replied. I looked back up as the Priminister started talking, “Thank you. I do not like long speeches, so lets cut to the chase. It is with my absolute and total respect that I present to those gathered before you with the Australian Victoria Cross (From Vietnam onwards, the Australian military left the British Military control, and its reward system. So Australia modified it and is still using it,). Would you please step forward when I call you name’s.” I looked at Logon to see an astonished look on his face. The priminister continued, “Jacob Rigby, Franklin Montgomery, Fitz Simmons, Karren Maybury, Trisstan Mackillan, Logon Price.” We stood and moved forward as our names were called, receiving medals. Finaly, after all the ceremonial things were done, and the crowd gathered had dissipated, Logon walked up to me.
“I’ve got a promise to keep.” He said to me as he walked over.
I smiled, “Whatever could that be.”
He smiled back, “Oh yer, I’ve found the new member of our unit.”
I looked up at him, “Who is it?” I asked. He turned and pointed, to my surprise, at Triss.
“She really up to it?”
“Yes. She survived the torture of seeing you almost die, I think she would be up to it.”
“ok.” We started walking toward the gates, “Where are we going?”
he smiled, “Somewhere I know you like.”

I lay my head on Logon’s shoulder as the fire works boomed overhead.
“It’s so pretty.” I said quietly.
“I know.” He replied.
I sighed, “So that’s it then, more insane maniacs trying to kill you. No more people using the ones closest to you.”
He turned to me, “Even if they did, they wouldn’t harm you if they knew what was good for them.” He said, “Come on, it’s a nice night, so lets enjoy it.”
I kissed him on the cheek, “Thanks for every thing.”
He raped his arm around my shoulders, “I would do anything for you.” Down below us, we could make out the other members of our unit celebrating.
“This has been one hell of a year.”
General’s pov
“What is the meaning of this meeting?” I asked.
“It is to discuss the advances of that unit.” The man shrouded in darkness said, “I am proposing that you move them to my command.”
I looked up, “Why would I do that?”
“Because they have the hallmarks of monster hunters.”
