I learned that you like to break the rules
Twist them into something new
Twist them until it suits you
Sticking to all your curves
All your sharp angles
But that's not the only thing
You decided to change without permission
You changed my internal wiring
So my mouth no longer worked
Only my ears could
I could only listen to your every word
My voice constantly stuck in my throat
Begging to be let out
Begging to be heard
But I swallowed it down
Knowing you wouldn't listen
You never listened
You brushed away my words
As if they were dirt on your shoes
Even when I said
I wanted to kill myself
That I was depressed
You never listened
So I had to listen to myself
I had to build myself from the ground up
A breathtaking skyscraper
That was
Is
empty on the inside
But I have slowly added some furniture
Making it look comfortable
Hiding the empty skeleton beneath all the layers of paint
I have taught myself how to love again
And now looking down beside me
I see a crumbling building
With shattered windows
And boarded up walls
And only then did I realize by not relying on you
I have made myself a better version
You could never have helped me become
Only then did I realize that the building beside me was you
And how you're now the dirt on my shoes
That Im ready to brush off

Song: Gangsta by Kehlani (Has nothing to do with the poem its just an AMAZING song )
