"Go!" Bob ordered Kim.

He had just arrived, Adam was still sleeping and Kim had been dozing in the chair when he first walked in. When he lightly touched her arm she nearly jumped out of the chair 'Adam!' She had called out. Bob could see the disappointment on her face when she looked over to see a still sleeping Adam.

"I'm not going..." Kim argued, "I want to be here when he wakes up."

Bob tossed his jacket on the back of the chair, "I know that. But, Kim..you've been here all night..and judging by the dark circles under your eyes..you haven't slept much. You haven't been eating all that well either. Go back to the hotel, grab something to eat. Maybe a nice bath or shower, and then a nap. I will call you when he wakes up."

Kim looked over at Adam, she was still trying to get used to the bleached blonde hair. She touched his foot, "You promise you'll call me if he wakes up? Even if you think he's going to wake up...please. I really want to be here..but I need to freshen up..and a nap sounds amazing." She hadn't slept much the last few days and now that she knew Adam was safe, the adrenaline had worn off and she was exhausted.

Bob rubbed her forearm, "I will..I will call you at this first sign that he may wake up. Get something to eat and have a nap. I've got Adam covered."

Kim went to the head of the bed and stood on her toes, "I will be back soon, Adam. I promise." She lightly touched his cheek, "I've missed you.." she mumbled as she kissed his temple. The swelling on his face had started to decrease, though the bruising had worsened over night. The doctors had told her that it would look worse before it got better so she had been expecting it. Despite the warning, it was still incredibly hard to look at, he had obviously gone through something horrific.

Bob pulled the table up to his chair, he had called down for dinner to be delivered, he was a bit surprised to find that he could actually order room service. He was appreciative of the service, there was no way in hell he was leaving his son's bedside.

Kim had been gone for close to ten hours and he was thankful for that, he knew she wouldn't have left on her own and he knew she was exhausted. He had gotten a bit nervous a few hours earlier, and had Erin check on her. Erin found Kim out cold in her hotel room, he told Erin to let her sleep.

Adam was still sound asleep, while the sedatives had all but worn off at this point his body was pushed passed the point of exhaustion. The doctors had checked on him just a short time ago and they were pleased with his vital signs and assured Bob that this wasn't unexpected and that Adam obviously needed the sleep.

It had been a grueling few months for Bob, he had missed Adam terribly while he was undercover and then to learn off his disappearance, well it had left him more than a little unsettled. He had a few heated conversations with Hank Voight since Adam had been rescued and it had taken Kevin Atwater and Al Olinsky both to separate the two men.

There was obviously no love lost between the two men, but they both had backed down when Trudy Platt had lit into them for their behavior. Neither man scared easily, but they both wilted under her stern gaze.

The silence was beginning to get to him, he turned the television on in hopes of calming his nerves, the news was on and it wasn't long before Adam's face was on the screen. It was hard watching Adam's rescue play out on the news. Thankfully they had been able to obscure the camera's view of Adam.

"Po...p..." Adam stammered, his head pounding as he tried to focus on speaking. His had clamped his eyes shut almost instantly, even the dimmed lights hurt like a mother fucker. "Where..."

Bob flew out of his chair, "Oh, Adam. My boy." He kissed his son's forehead, "Don't talk Son, just rest. You're safe, Son. You're safe." It was then Bob exhaled, he could finally breathe easy.

Adam squinted, "Lights.."

"I will dim them." Bob kicked the lights down even further, "You've got no idea how relieved I am...Shit, Adam. I'm too old for this shit." He held tightly to Adam's hand.

"Me too." Adam replied, grimacing as he tried to move, "Everything hurts..Pops."

Bob kissed his son once again, "Oh, I bet it does. You scared the shit out of all of us..what do you remember?"

Adam reached up and scratched his face, yanking at the nasal prongs, "Don't need this..."

"Yes. Yes, you do. Leave it be Adam." Bob placed them back in his nose, "I need to call Voight." He had promised he'd get word to Hank when Adam woke up, "Sit tight Adam. I will be just outside."

"Okay.." Adam mumbled, he closed his eyes and tried to keep still. Hoping if he was still he wouldn't hurt, he quickly learned it didn't matter if he was still or if he moved.

Even his hair hurt.

He tried to remember what had happened, but everything was so disjointed in his head..he could remember getting in the van and then they stopped at a rest stop of some sort and that was the last he could remember.

Bob came back, "Voight will be here shortly, he's just rounding the team up." He dragged his chair closer to the bed, "You need anything? Pain medicine? Food, maybe a drink?"

Adam held his hand up, "Pop..calm down.." he felt a tickle in his throat, "Water?"

"You got it. I'm gonna grab your nurse. Hang tight." Bob couldn't keep the smile off his face, he paused in the doorway, "I love you Son."

Adam attempted a smile, "Love you too Pops."

Kevin pounded on the door, "Burgess!" He looked over his shoulder, "no one has the key?"

Erin dug around in her purse, "I had it...hang on." The purse was like a bottomless pit and she could feel Jay glaring at her, "Bite your tongue Jay Halstead..I'm not in the mood."

Kim bolted upright in bed, the pounding on the door matched the pounding of her heart. She was completely discombobulated, "what the hell.." she rubbed her hands over her face, what was supposed to have been a catnap had turned into hours of sleep.

"Found it!" Erin held it up, Kevin reached for it just as the door opened.

"What the hell?" Kim asked, "I was afraid you'd bust the door down...what's going on? Is it Adam?" She slipped her feet in her Toms.

"Yes it's Adam. He's awake. Let's go." Kevin pulled her up from the chair. "Voight's already on his way..."

Kim grabbed her cellphone and purse, "He is? Is he okay?"

"Burgess...let's go. We don't have time for questions.." Kevin was just as anxious as Kim.

A nurse finally greeted them, "He's finished giving his statement, you folks can head on up."

As they moved towards the elevator, Kim hung back.

Erin was the first to notice Kim wasn't with them, "Kim..come on."

Kim rocked on her heels, nervously pulling the inside of her cheek between her teeth, "I can't."
