Chapter 4

There was one time when the participants were shuffled. Unfortunately, may dalawang taga Yuzon akong nakasama. As in..the whole time na may activity, they kept on assessing me. Nakakairita na ha. They tried to be friendly with me but I just gave them nods and smiles. As long as I can…I don’t want to be associated with them. Sabihin na nilang snob ako but awkward talaga eh. I can’t be me if they’re around. Kaya one time…inapproach sila ni Prof.

“Excuse me. You’re from Yuzon University right?”-prof

“Yes ma’am.” Sagot ni Ian…siyempre siya ang team leader eh.

“Ok. Don’t you know it’s rude to stare at other people while eating? My students are not comfortable. Mabuti sana if isa lang sa inyo but your whole group…Mr…”-prof

“Gosiaco…Ian Gosiaco ma’am.”

“Yes…Mr. Gosiaco.”-prof

“Sorry if you were intimidated by us ma’am.  Don’t worry, we will not do it again.” Sabi ni Ian tapos nagbow kay prof for respect.

“Good. Thank you.”

Bumalik na sa table si ma’am and on cue, ni isa man sa taga Yuzon ay hindi na tumingin.

So ngayon…socials night na. Last night na kasi ng summit. Bukas…awarding nalang for some activities at uwian na.

Aba, the whole summit…ginawa bang hunting activity? Hunting for cute guys. Haha.

Ako naman, kanina pa may mga lumalapit na boys to ask me to dance or di kaya, humingi nang number or email address ko. Hindi naman sa hindi ko sila gusto, in fact, some of them are drop dead handsome. But I really don’t want to join them kaya yun…disappointed. Habang pinapanood ko ang friends ko…nagshift ang music into a slow one. Ay kainggit…sweet nila. Palingon lingon pa nga si Jill sabay nguso sa kasayaw niya, eh gwapo daw. Nagulat ako nang…

“Excuse me…can I ask you for a dance?” sabi nung baritone voice sabay offer nang hand.

Paglingon ko sa nagsasalita…si Ian. Gosh…he really looks like a god.

“Uhmmm…”

“I won’t take no for an answer, gorgeous.”

“Wait!”

Tapos hinila niya ko papuntang gitna. Ano daw…gorgeous? Shockz! Wala na akong nagawa kasi nakakahiya naman if magpupumiglas ako diba? Then on cue…nagsipuntahan din sa gitna ang mga kasama niya with their partners. Pinalibutan nila kami…kaya tuloy ang iba…nag give way.

Beautiful in my eyes pa ang nagpplay. Hala! Ano ba to…nanginginig ako sa kaba.

“Relax. I won’t do anything to you. I just want to talk to you.”

I looked at him and spoke.

“Ok. Tell me what you want to say because I’m not really comfortable with you guys.”

“Yes, we know that and we are sorry. It’s just that you really look like the woman we all know.”

“Uhmm…who is this woman?”

“The daughter of the owner of Yuzon University.” Then he smiled. Uh-oh. Siya na.

“I really don’t know this woman but you see, maraming magkakamukha sa mundong ito. There were times nga na maraming ina-assosciate na personalities sakin eh.”

“I bet it’s true. But you see, once we have this gut feeling, we know we are right.”

“Haha…are you implying that I’m the daughter of the Great Mr. Yuzon?” Nagpapatawa ba to?

“No. I know that you’re not her.” Napahiya yata ako dun.

(^_^)---> siya

(>///<)---- > ako

“Uhmm..sorry.” ako

“Haha…don’t worry. But you see…you can be the granddaughter.” Serious na ang mukha niya.

We stopped dancing and I distanced myself from him.

“You know what? You’re crazy. You and your friends are. Sorry to disappoint you ha…but I know well my family tree…my history and my identity. I’m telling you Mr. Gosiaco, not because I look like the mother of your lost one, ako na ang anak niya. Kamukha ko rin ang mama ko nuh! You’ve got the wrong person. For Pete’s sake! Yun ba ang reason why you keep on bugging me with your stares? Please stop it. You are fooling yourself. I am Keiya Louisse Ledesma an Ilongga. It’s not so nice meeting you.”

Tinalikuran ko siya at umalis na. Pero ang kulit…may pahabol pa.

“Let’s see Ms. Ledesma. I tell you, I have a strong intuition. I never failed on that.” Tapos nag grin siya. Yung tipong nakakaloko pero gwapo parin.

I looked back and said, “ Let’s see Mr. Gosiaco. This time, I’ll prove you wrong. I’ll let you face reality that not all intuitions are right. And haven’t you learned from school that women have the strongest intuitions? I’m a woman mister, remember that.”  Nagbleh ako at umalis na.

Crazy fools. But…I can’t deny that he made my heart pound endlessly. Ian…too bad. That would be the first and the last time we’ll speak to each other. Last nga ba? Ewan.
