Chatter and small talk echoed through the room as leaders from all the different countries of the United Nations filed into the grand conference room. I, of course, took my place in the center of it all, my name plaque set near my chair. Everyone settled down quickly, since this meeting would be a little different than most others.
And then they entered. The first one looked calm, reformed, and not at all fazed by the amount of people staring at her and the floral flared dress, messy bun, and wedges strutting across the room. The second one seemed timid, barely making eye contact with anyone except the floor. His tuxedo looked two sizes too large, and his hair was overdosed in gel. The third teen had a full business suit on; I could have mistaken her for an adult if it had not been for the other teens surrounding her.
The next boy, though, must have been at least six feet, and he was practically a stick. He didn't dress nearly as formal as the first boy. His plaid shirt was stormy blue and grey, paired with blue jeans. The boy seemed jumpy, and I noticed that his hands shook slightly as he made his way to the others. Then the last girl came in, glasses and a short bob framed her face. She stared at all the faces staring at her as she walked across the room, and even met my gaze with a cold stare. A simple V-neck and skinny jeans was her attire, which seemed overly casual. Finally, the last person entered. He had on a brown leather jacket and a shark tooth necklace, with extremely messy hair, making it look like he just left the beach.
All of the teenagers were told to stand in a line and wait. Realizing that was my cue, I turned to the microphone and said, "Good morning and welcome to the meeting. Today we have something important to discuss." I turned to face the six teens, all of who looked either scared or bored.
"Congratulations," I said, giving them a warm smile, "you are all geniuses." The last boy raised his eyebrows, while the girl in a dress just nodded.
I continued. "On the IQ test, you all achieved scores that make up the top 2% of the world's population. I know some of you may be surprised by this, but we have talked with your parents or guardians, and we have discovered you are all geniuses in different categories." Now they really looked confused.
"Allow me to explain. Which one of you is Savvy?" The girl in the dress raised her hand. Although I was a little shocked by this, I kept talking. "Ah. Then you, my dear, are a genius when it comes to math. Your brain is a human calculator. You know how to solve equations I cannot begin to comprehend." Savvy smirked, obviously pleased with her intro.
I kept going, explaining all the categories. Galeno, the boy with the tux, was a genius of science. Brogan, the girl who looked 20, was a genius of physical activity. Amen, the boy in plaid, was a genius of society (how society works). Cailey, the girl who gave me a death stare, was a genius of art. And Abhinav, the beach boy, was a genius of technology. As I explained, translators around me told every teen besides Savvy (as she was American) what I was telling them in their native language. As I soon as they were all informed, I told them why they were called here.
"Because you are teenage geniuses and we believe that you are the future of this world, the United Nations believes that people like you should be in a position to make a change in the world, to make it better. That's why we would like to offer you future positions working as heads of different departments in the UN."
"However, we cannot just hand you these highly respected and sought after positions without having you apply first. So, as a form of applying, you will all be given a task that will help you learn how to work together and make sure no foes of the UN will ever be able to know your plans and proposals. You all must learn how to communicate with each other without using an already known language. You have 24 hours to successfully complete the task."
