. . . Three Years Later. . .
I felt good, even though I was nothing but a shadow that followed in my heros foot steps. I took a breath and kept punching at the punching bag until it hit the far wall and exploded. I growled out wishing my mind would leave me be. It was three a.m. in the morning, the only time I can come out of my hole and let out my pain. It always turns into me fighting the years of pain and scars back to where they belong. The door opened and I hid in the Shadows watching and waiting. Fury walked in and headed right towards me. I did not dare move from my spot but waited.
"I know you're there Nicole, I saw you move when I walked in." He said shaking his head.
"You startled me, Sir. I'm sorry I'll do better." He sighed and glared at me.
"What did I do now?" I asked frowning
"Nothing, its what I'm about to ask you is what bothers me." He said and sat down on one of the benches that was in this huge training room.
I sighed and sat next to him, he's never like this and yet here he is almost deflated. Ever since that day he got Hydra off my back he has truly become someone I trust and that is saying something. I started to unwrap my hands and looked at him patiently. I owe him my life. I smiled at him and nodded hoping he will continue, which he did.
"You remember that deal we made?"
I nodded.
"Well I was hoping you would break it to start working alongside some of the best people I know. And they won't be anything like the people that sold you out." He awaited for my answer and I had to bit my tongue at first.
"You mean the Avengers?" He nodded.
"Why now?" I looked at him through the darkness of the room only the moon giving us light.
"Because I'm afraid Hydra is S.H.E.I.L.D., at least parts that I know about. And for your safety you need to go to the Avengers Tower. You need to learn to work with a team. Because being alone won't always work out." He said lowly and I knew why, I nodded and headed to my room.
I punched the hell out of the wall knowing I at least woke the people that slept around my room. I took a shower and put on some casual black clothes. My ear piece crackled and I pressed it, Fury was on the other end.
"There will be a meeting at 9 O'clock, be ready for anything Nicole." He spoke and that was all that need to be said.
To tell you the truth I wasn't at all angry. At least that's what I kept telling myself. Hell, who would be happy to know that the people that did this to you and still are looking for you are in the building? They could be anybody I know, so yes I'm so happy. I sighed and went to breakfast seeing it was 7:30 a.m.
Avengers Tower. . . . The afternoon before. . .
"What do you mean a New Avenger, Aren't we enough?" Tony yelled at Fury.
"I need her to trust people again, I can't be the only one she trusts. That will end very badly Stark you know that. I know you read her file and I need you to be on our side when I bring this up with everyone else." Fury argued with Tony sitting at his personal bar.
"How do we know she's not a threat?" Tony sighed just about willing to give into Fury's plea but he needed one more push.
"Because, she has nothing else but what I have given her. She will trust my decision, but will need to see that at least someone is willing to compromise with her. She likes science and is willing to learn if she is given the chance. I know I can trust you to take her under your wing. Don't think I don't really know you because I do." Fury said with a stern look in his one good eye.
"Alright as long as she isn't a problem, I'll do it. I'll tell Pepper and get her room ready. Is there anything else I need to know that I don't know already about her?" Tony raised an eye brow at Fury.
"Leave her be when she becomes quiet in any situation." Fury got up and walked over to the elevator.
"Have you told her?"
Fury looked over his shoulder at the billionaire and knew it was not about the compromise that was about to be made. But instead about something that ran deeper. Something that would soon be the first thing he wished he had told her when they met. It would soon come back to burn the one that thought he could play with fire.
"No" he pressed the elevator button.
"That's one thing you shouldn't keep from someone like her." Tony said taking a sip of the drink he poured for himself.
"That's the risk I'm willing to take see you at 9 O'clock" And with that Fury was gone.
