🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄Jin and Jimin stood at the foot of the rooftop staircase in silence. Jimin still couldn't bring himself to go. It was fitting, that Jin was the last person he saw, when he was also the first.
"Thanks for everything, hyung," Jimin said to Jin. "I won't forget you all."
"I know, of course, you won't. You have my recipe, don't you?" Jin reminded him.
Jimin nodded and patted the pocket of his large fur coat.
"This was really quite the Christmas. I have so many new friends because of you," Jin continued, also hesitant to see Jimin go.
The conversation grew short as Jimin heard the distant sound of jingling bells. He was almost disappointed that their letters had worked.
"I have to go, Jin hyung," Jimin told him.
Jin pulled Jimin into a tight hug, then released him just as quickly.
"Bye," Jin said quietly as Jimin hurried up the stairs.
"Goodbye," Jimin whispered as he neared the door.
Jin watched as he opened the door to reveal the inky night, and as he disappeared onto the roof, the large door coming to a heavy close behind him. Jimin was gone.
🎄
When Jin got back to the apartment, everyone was wide awake and talking in hushed tone. Namjoon gave Jin a sad smile as he closed the front door.
"Is he gone?" Namjoon asked.
"Yeah," Jin nodded.
"Jimin sure was a great elf," Taehyung said sadly. "Too bad he had to leave."
"Wait...Jimin was really an elf?" Mark asked.
"Yeah, I saw his ears myself," BamBam said.
"How could you not realize that? After all we did for him?" Baekhyun asked.
"I don't know...I thought it was some sort of Christmas role play thing," Mark said in disbelief.
Yoongi wasn't listening to any of their conversations. He was watching as a shooting star shot across the night sky. Jiminie's really gone, he thought, suddenly much sadder. It was strange how much you realize you like someone after they're actually gone.
Taehyung was also watching from a separate window as the star shot by.
"Bye, Chim Chim," he said to himself.
"It's still fairly early, why don't we make some cookies to put ourselves back in a cheerful mood?" Jinki suggested.
Slowly, everyone started to get a bit better. And after finishing with the treats, they carefully wrapped them and prepared to leave. Over the next hour, different boys slowly drifted out of Jin's apartment. But not before everyone exchanged information for the future. Soon enough, only Yoongi, Namjoon, and Jin remained.
"Back where we started," Namjoon said as they all sat around Jin's beautiful tree.
"Except we're missing someone," Yoongi commented quietly.
"It's fine. Maybe we'll see him next year," Jin reminded them.
"Maybe," Namjoon said.
"It's late. I'm gonna go back to my apartment." Yoongi stood.
"I'll leave too." Namjoon followed.
Jin led them to the door and bid farewell, locking it behind them. With a yawn and a stretch of his arms, he went back to his room. It was three in the morning, and Jin could feel it. He was exhausted from the long day. He didn't even bother to change. With another yawn, Jin slipped under the covers and closed his eyes, drifting back to sleep.
🎄
*Thump*
Jin turned over under his covers.
*Thump*Thump*
Jin slowly opened his eyes.
*CRASH*
Jin jolted up.
"What was that?" He asked, feeling a sense of déjà vu run through him.
But Jimin was gone. He'd watched him leave. Maybe it really is a robber this time! Jin didn't waste time texting Namjoon. Instead, he hit call right away.
"Again, hyung?" Namjoon groaned as he answered.
"Namjoon, I think this is really it. I really do hear someone. You've gotta get over here!" Jin hissed to the phone.
Jin finished the call and jumped off his bed, heading to the closet until he realized that the bat was still in the living room. Should I just stay in here? He wondered. No. Be strong. Jin ventured out into the dark hallway, and crept to the source of the noise. He wished he'd checked the time before leaving his room, wondering if the sun was about to rise. As he neared the living room, he heard a faint whisper.
"Jin? Is that you? 'Cause I need some help," a familiar voice called to him.
Jin peeked in to lay his eyes on a horrible sight. Jimin was lying under the large tree. Jin's beautiful tree.
"Jimin!" Jin cried, rushing towards him.
With all his might, Jin lifted the tree off of the poor elf. Jimin scrambled out from under the tree and Jin let it drop again, not even caring if his ornaments cracked.
"What are you doing here?!" Jin exclaimed.
Jimin smiled shyly and pulled back the hair over his ears.
"What...Jimin?" Jin trailed off in disbelief.
Jimin's ears were soft and rounded at the top. No more pointy-ness.
"How...?"
"I didn't go with Nicks, Jin," Jimin said. "I'm staying with you guys. If I can, I mean. I mean, I don't really know where else to go and I also don't want to trouble you guys, so if you don't want me, I can go find a job or something and live elsewhere, maybe I'll never talk to you, if you don't want me to--"
"Jimin! I'm so happy you stayed!" Jin cried, making Jimin flinch.
Jin wrapped his long arms around Jimin. And Jimin hugged him back.
Both had never felt so happy in their lives.
🎄
And so Jimin stayed.
He realized that, happiness wasn't found in fitting in with those around you, it's in finding happiness with those around you.
And that is exactly what Jimin did.
