"Lexa Woods! You're late again." She shouted at the girl and pushed her against the table, causing a sudden silence. Everyone in this room shut up and looked at the scene. Octavia's eyes grew wide when she realized how strict Judy really was, but to her surprise, Lexa turned around and clenched her teeth. "What are you going to do about it? Skipping my meals? Letting me sleep in one of your shitty sheds? Or rather locking me up in the basement?" She raised an eyebrow as Judy raised her hand.
"I'm used to that, go on." Lexa said calmly.
Even Marcus was left speechless by judy's handling with kids, and didn't want to imagine what this girl had been through already.
Lexa, on the other hand, smiled at Judy's sudden change. She enjoyed her head's red face of embarrassment and shaking voice as she spoke.
"Where were you last night?"
"None of your business."Lexa answered, emphasizing the 'o'. Judy boiled with rage and was about to lose her last bit of selfcontrol, just as Octavia found her words again.
---
"What?" All three asked in common, not believing what Octavia just said.
"What?" She shrugged her shoulders as she pulled paralysed lexa on her sleeve towards her. Lexa, however, couldn't trust her ears and removed the smaller girl's hand from her hoodie and turned around to face Judy who was still surprised. Even Marcus made big eyes when his daughter decided to choose a girl at her age instead of a child which was discussed and agreed on before.
"I'm staying."
Judy, however didn't say a word at first but deep frowning wrinkles seemed to appear on her forehead that secretly revealed her true age.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, her pensive face turned satisfied as she looked into lexa's eyes. Lexa, on the other hand swallowed and tensed when she saw the sudden change in her unpredictable warden she used to call frosty bitch. Frosty because Judy wasn't quite exactly what people thought she was. She wasn't a nice and friendly woman, at least not towards the older kids who haven't grown up to her expectations. And a bitch because Lexa simply just hated her after she had experienced her hard ways. Sleeping without a mattress, being locked up in a cold, dark basement without someone to talk to or being slapped with a belt was what Lexa knew way to well.Still with lexas wary eyes on her, the older woman turned to Kane who was still confused about his daughter's decision.
"Marcus.. what do you think?" She asked.
"I don't know.. Octavia and me.." he began but was cut off by his daughter.
"Agreed on a child that needs a loving family. And please guys. Look at her!" All eyes were on Lexa now.
"What" Lexa said after she realized she hasn't been listening because she was being busy thinking about what the devilish lady could plan. Octavia pulled Lexa towards her again, placed her arms around her and leaned her head on her as if they had known for years or decades. Lexa tensed and tried to shake her off like a parasite but much to her chagrin, Octavia wasn't one to be getting rid off easily.
"She cleeearly needs love!" The smaller one whispered. Lexa on the contrary had enough. She clenched her fists, finally freed herself from the parasite and took a step back to keep her distance. One could see a pounding vain appear on her forehead.
"Okay you freaks. Once and for all.. I won't come with you. I have a nice job and I'm happy here." She smiled.
Judy just laughed.
"I think your daughter might be right. Lexa is a person who doesn't know trust. She doesn't trust anyone and is doing everything single-handedly." The green eyes that were staring into judy's brown ones, grew wide.
"What I want to say is, that she might need a family to become someone better."
"Are you crazy?!" Lexa hissed. "Look, Marvin."
"Marcus." He corrected her with a weak smile on his lips.
"Whatever. I won't come with you. I'm not interested and I'm happy here. Like I said I'm having a good life and just take a look around. There are children needing a family more than I do. I already had a family. There's no space for a second one."
With these words Lexa left through the wooden door, leaving everyone speechless.--
"Do you really think it's a good idea? She made it clear that she wants to stay there." Marcus frowned as he sipped on his coffee, deeply drowned in his thoughts and going through the meeting with Judy and Lexa again.
Somehow he had to admit that not only his daughter was attracted to the idea of taking lexa home as a new family member and giving her the love she must have missed for years, but also he started to like the idea. He couldn't explain how or why, but he felt that lexa was hurting deep inside of her allegedly cold heart.
