Jade's POV:

Rubbing my face for what seems like a hundred time, I couldn't help but get frustrated with the calculations I kept coming up.

One thing to always remember when doing math is that unlike life, it only ever has one answer with the expected position or negative when doing, for example, the quadratic formula.

Placing down the file I had in my hand, I looked over my numbers before deciding to give myself a break since I started getting hungry. Ms. Winters had been over all the place doing whatever it was a teacher did, however, in between her trips she came back to her classroom to give me the lunch she promised she would get for me.

Running my fingers through my unkempt hair, I reached over my desk to grab the sandwich she got for me as well as the milk and apple. I couldn't help but to roll my eyes are her chose.

Just because I had certain medicinal condition didn't necessarily mean I had to always eat healthily and in fact, sometimes I had to eat something that was sugar to make sure I didn't past out from low sugar.

Deciding to be grateful instead of annoyed at her food choice, I leaned back in my chair and kicked my feet out on the chair opposite to me since I couldn't put them on my table.

I took my time in savoring the taste of the sandwich as well as the apple since I never really liked devouring my food as fast as I could. Take a couple of sips from my milk, I was ready to close my eyes for a second when I heard the most annoying screeching sound ever.

"Jade!"

Groaning, I slowly took my feet of the chair and straighten myself out.

"Has this been all that you've been doing?" Layla asked as she quickly made her way over to me.

Rubbing my neck, I slowly looked up to stare into her greenish-brown eyes.

"No Ms. Winters I just took a break so I could eat my lunch since I was starving," I mumbled as I stared at her.

Biting her bottom lip, Layla let out a soft sign before relaxing her composure a bit. Taking the seat opposite of me, Layla turned her attention to the files in front of me before picking them up one by one.

Staring at her while I continued to drink my milk I noticed right away that she was somewhat lost.

"Don't hurt yourself there," I mumbled as I reached out to grab the file Layla had in her hand.

Rolling her eyes at me, Layla handed the file she had in her hand back to me before leaning back against her chair.

"You tired?" I asked after placing the file back in the area I had it.

Slowly shaking her head, she ran her fingers through her hair before directing her attention to me.

"I forgot to ask you, did you make sure your friends left the campus?"

"I'm about 80 percent sure they left," I said as I shrugged my shoulders.

Layla was quick to scold me.

"Jade you're not allowed to have visitors over if they aren't cleared by the front officers and aren't over the age of 18."

"Noted," I mumbled as I looked over at the files.

I didn't like how Layla always found a way to belittle me as if my main goal in life was to cause trouble. In all honesty, I was starting to regret offering her my help.

Picking up one of the files again, I decided to just ignore Layla's present and continued to work on the numbers. All I wanted to do was finish as fast I could so that I could leave and get back to my friends.
