Skypaw's blue eyes sparkled as she gazed at the stars above her. She turned to her littermate. "Snowpaw?" She mewed. Snowpaw's fluffy white head turned toward her. "Yes?" He purred. She sighed then spoke. "Do you ever wonder which star is Leafclaw?" She asked quietly. Snowpaw rolled over on his back, his paws dangling upon his chest. "You know Skypaw," He mewed. "I always believed that our mother is every single star in Night Pelt, and she is watching us from afar." Skypaw giggled. Snowpaw rolled back into his belly. "What?" He asked. "You sound just like an Elder!" She laughed. "All full of wisdom!" Snowpaw leaped onto Skpaw and batted her back with his paws. "Hey!" She protested. "I wasn't ready!" But she was indeed prepared. She swiped Snowpaw in the face, which made him stumble off her back. Then she got on her paws and pounced onto his belly and battered him with her hind paws. "Gotcha!" She boasted. Snowpaw's tail lashed in annoyance. Skypaw backed off of him. "I didn't make you angry did I?" She asked, worried. Then, Snowpaw unexpectedly, jumped to his paws and bowled her over. "Tricked ya!" He meowed playfully. Skypaw scrambled to her paws and shook the sandy earth off her pelt. "Whatever," she sighed. "I think we should get to bed." Snowpaw nodded. The two siblings padding into the apprentices den. Inside, the other apprentices were already asleep. Woodpaw's brown pelt slowly rose and fell while being pressed up against Rosepaw. And and Grasspaw lay by himself. Skypaw and Snowpaw picked there way around them and found their usual spots. Skypaw lay down in her moss nest and placed her tail neatly over her nose. Before closing her eyes, she watched her brother curl up beside her, giving her warmth. Then a deep wave of sleep swept over her.
Blood stuck to her ears as Skypaw blundered the through the forest. She arrived at the RiverClan border and called. "Help!" She yowled. "Help us!" Then, almost on demand , the undergrowth rustled and the RiverClan Deputy, Paddlepelt, stalked towards her. "What do you want?!" He hissed. Skypaw panted. "Please help us!" She rasped between breaths. "WindClan is attacking, pleas help us!" Paddlepelt looked thoughtful for a moment then nodded. "Fine." His voice was dry. "Head back to the battle, and I'll be there quickly." His gaze stared intensely at her. "They need you, Skypaw." He murmured. Skypaw nodded and scampered towards the battle again. "Hurry!" She yelled over her shoulder. She bursted through the bushes, soon exposed to the vicious battle. "Bring your all, StarClan," she growled under her breath. "I'm ready." Then she leaped into the the battle. She looked around for her first victim. But she stopped. "Leafclaw!" She screeched. Her mother was tussling with a WindClan warrior named Smokeleaf. But Her mother was losing. Smokeleaf soon got Leafclaw pinned to the ground. Smokeleaf's aimed a perfect killing blow. "No!" She yowled. She pelted towards her mother but she was knocked over and all of her breath was driven from her. She got to her paws. Snaketooth was glaring fiercely at her. "Scared, little she-cat?" She teased. Fury rose inside of Skypaw. "Stop!" She hissed and flung herself at the black she-cat. She flailed her claws in the warriors face. But a piercing shriek stopped her. Even Snaketooth stopped. She looked up, blinking the blood from her eyes. She saw her mother, dead, with Smokeleaf towering above her. "No!!!!" She screamed, tears streaming down her face. "Skypaw, shut up!" Her eyes snapped open. She jumped to her paws. "What happened?!" She looked around, horrified. Snowpaw was glaring sleepily at her. Grasspaw, Woodpaw, and Rosepaw also glared at her. "What is wrong with you?" Woodpaw hissed. Skypaw's eyes were still wide with horror and her claws dug into the earth with her neck fur risen. "I... I'm sorry, I had a nightmare." She murmured. Woodpaw just glared at her longer. Snowpaw noticed and flicked him in the ear with his tail. "She just had a nightmare, man." Woodpaw just snorted and curled up in in his nest. Snowpaw flicked him in the ear again. Woodpaw twisted around and glared at Snowpaw. "What did I do?" He hissed. Snowpaw laughed. "It's dawn!" He chuckled. Woodpaw scrabbled to his paws. "Ok I'm going!" He growled, then stalked out of the den. Snowpaw shook his his head and padded towards the entrance of the den. He stopped and look at Skypaw. "You coming?" He asked, his whiskers twitched. "Oh yes!" Skypaw's voice shook. She padded unevenly towards him. Snowpaw wrapped his tail around her to balance her. As they reached farther from the den, Snowpaw stopped and looked at her, his green eyes curious. "What did you dream about?" Snowpaw asked. Skypaw hesitated. She didn't really want to tell him. But why not? She thought to her self. She sighed. "I dreamed about when Leafclaw got murdered," she whimpered. "It was awful!" Snowpaw rubbed his cheek against her muzzle. "It's okay," he mewed. "I'm here." Without really realizing it, Skypaw's light gray fur started to bristle. She pulled away from him. "Protecting me won't bring her back," Skypaw growled. "You can stop protecting me, thanks." She padded away, to go find her mentor, Lakeheart.
