Chapter 4: The New Pet

As I approach the bush, I drop my things and open the huge bush. Ashton comes right behind me to make sure the dog is harmless. A dog appeared and it kept whimpering. Oh what could I do! I look around to see if there are any other dogs. As I look closer and closer, I realize that's it's a baby! A small poor puppy! Where could the mother be? The bush is filled with thorns! There were 3 stuck inside her! No wonder she won't stop whimpering! Poor thing! I look at Ashton and he comes closer. He helps me carry the puppy out of the bush. We lay her down on the snow. Lydia searches through her backpack and looks for an aid kit and a warm blanket. She lays the grey blanket down and we set the puppy on it. It's laying down but still won't stop whimpering. Ashton shines a flashlight beside me because, of course it's dark, and I'll need to see what I'm doing to help the puppy. Lydia hands me the first aid kit and I take out the tweezers and 3 small bandaids. As I examine it I noticed it's a her, I find the first thorn and I take out a couple of treats to distract her, I begin to take it out, but she starts moving her leg. I'm so sorry girl! It's going to be okay! I pet her and she calms down. I needed her to stop because, where I was taking out the thorn was by her thighs and it was difficult to take out if she moved. I finally take it out and place a bandaid to make sure she doesn't bleed. I look for the other two and I spot them together by her right front paw! I need someone to help me I look back and Ashton brings light closer and helps me with the puppy. I managed to take both of them out and place just one bandaid, I didn't need the other. We look in the kit we if there is formula to give to her. Great! It's here! I make the formula and hand it to Ashton. He looks at me. I start blushing. Oh I can feel the heat boiling inside me! Stop that Ellie! Oh my I don't want him to think bad!?! He takes the bottle and smiles he carries the puppy and feeds her. I turn off the flashlight and then Lydia looks at me. An awkward silence roamed." What are you going to do with her leave her here? We're running out of time! Hurry and make the decision!" Lydia says. What leave her here! Alone without her mother. Poor thing! We are running out of time! I must keep her safe! Look at her! She's so calm when she's with us!?! I should keep her can't let her stay out here alone! She will suffer, especially without her mom!" I'm going to... keep her there's no time to do anything right now! We need to think fast! Ashton hand her to me! I'll carry her and you two come behind me so the trip will go quicker!" I decide. I go back to the bush and put my backpack back on. We all put it back on! Ashton hands her to me, with the bottle, and they all get behind me. Ashton grabs 3 long branches. What are we going to use those for? He hands one to me and Lydia." We can use these as hiking sticks! There really helpful... we could also use them to build a fort for tonight!" Ashton suggested. Why is he so perfect! He comes up with the greatest ideas! I should stop thinking like that it might never happen!?!*inside sigh* I look at the puppy. "That's genius Ash! That is going to be really helpful for the trip!" I say. Lydia nods like if she agreed! Well of course she agreed! She's nodding. I start walking, with my stick, and Ashton and Lydia start walking to.

The puppy fell asleep in my arms and we all get tired. It's almost 5:00am time sure went by... but slowly. We stop walking and take a break." How long is it until we get to the castle?" I ask. Lydia takes a seat on a big rock and takes of her backpack to get out a map. She unfolded it and read it carefully." Ah ha!" She says, " We are right here, and to get there..." she points at the map." It will take... 38 more hours!" She says in a fake enthusiastically way. Her sarcasm just cranky me up but... I'm exhausted, so I can't take her serious right now. Oh boy! I sigh. She looks at me then Ashton." You know what!?!" She pauses," Let's set up camp for tonight and take a break and continue traveling in the morning! We do need sleep!" Great a break now I can take a break and let this cutie sleep. Lydia breaks a branch off a pine tree it was less painful to break because she obviously had gloves on. She made sure it had leaves, then she swept the snow away to make a dry spot to make a fire and two huge spaces to set the tents up. As soon as my tent and Lydia's is up we look at Ashton." Dude what's wrong?" I ask. DUDE!?! What was I thinking. I turn into the lightest shade of red.
Ugh now I'm blushing! Why am I always this awkward is it cause we... ugh never mind stop thinking about that! It was probably just an accident...or was it? Am I still blushing! I set down the wolf inside my tent on a blanket.
" Well I... sorta...forgot something.... when I was packing." He responds." Oh really? So now where are you going to sleep now?" I ask. Oh my he is just so forgetful I love him! But now it's a little different I haven't talked to him since yesterday!?!" Well maybe I can borrow someone's tent. If you are kind enough?" He says I a very cute politely way. He has manners! Aw! He's just perfect! Okay really have to stop! I start blushing and Lydia noticed. She gives me a weird smile I stare at her. Ugh Lydia it's not what you're thinking! Ugh! I seriously have to stop with the 'ughs'!" Well you can have mine and I can go and stay with Ellie!" Lydia suggests. That's pretty chill of her she's always generous to everyone!" Okay that's cool" Ashton said thankfully." Okay lets go gather some wood to make a fire!"Lydia ordered. Lydia stays at our camp and me and Ashton explore through the woods.
