Chapter 4

Lilly’s POV

Dinner was fun, everyone was nice, and they made me feel welcome. I felt upset and jealous that Julian had been with a pack, surrounded by people his kind. But then again I get to live with them now.

I learned a lot about the people at dinner, like how Jack was Julian’s third-in-command and a guy named Devin was Julian’s beta, the three of them was as close as brothers. I mostly talked to Emily and Suhayla, they we nice and not too pushy with getting me to answer their questions. They were my first friends in eleven years, not including Anna.

When I had found out I was out for three days I gave Julian a heated glare, he put up his hands in defence. Julian had already enrolled me into my last year of school, Emily, Jack, Ricky and his friends, Devin and a lot of others.

After dinner most of the pack had gone to bed or hung out somewhere in the pack house, it was around nine when we walked into the games room to watch a movie. We bet girls against guys in a game of rock paper scissors to see who would pick a movie. Us girls won and we decided to torture the guys so we chose Cinderella.  It came up to the part where Cinderella met her god mother when I smelt cinnamon and woods smell. I wondered if anyone was cooking something.

‘Mate, got to mate’ my wolf suddenly said, making me jump and getting a curious look from Julian. I felt him enter the games room, but I kept my eyes to the screen, a blush rising to my cheeks from his heated gaze.

I swallowed the lump in my throat when I heard his footsteps coming closer to me. I never thought I would meet my mate and now I have and I don’t know what to do, do I meet his gaze and full n love or do I reject him then runaway? What if he rejects me? My gaze falls to the ground; I don’t think I could handle a rejection. I hear his footsteps coming closer till they stop in front of me.

“Mine” he growled making everyone gasp.

I looked over at Julian, asking him if Devin was going to reject me and Julian just shrugged. I wanted a no not a maybe, what did he mean by maybe?! I couldn’t take it anymore, I got up and practically sprinted out of the room, I followed Julian’s smell to his room where I went to the bed and laid down, burying my face in the pillow.

Later I heard voices,

“Let me talk to her first” Julian said, probably talking to Devin.

The door opened and closed, Julian came in and laid down next to me,

“What’s wrong Lilly?”

“I thought I would never meet my mate but then again I thought I would never see you again” I sighed, “I’m afraid I am going to get rejected” I mumbled and before Julian could answer the door banged open and Devin walked in.

He walked to where I was and then got onto his knees and I blushed, what was he doing?

“I’ll leave you too” Julian said and I gave him a pleading look which he ignored.

I looked at the ground till Devin grabbed my chin and made me look at him, tingles shooting through the touch. He stared into my eyes and then he opened his mouth,

“I’m not going to reject you, Lillian. I once thought I was going to reject my mate but then when I saw you I changed my mind, I need my mate” he signed and ran his fingers through his hair, getting up and pacing around the room as my eyes followed him, “Dammit! I’m not good at this”

“I understand” I whispered, making him look at me, “I understand that you’re not going to reject me but I’ve been alone most of my life so it just might take some getting used to”

He nodded before holding out his hand, “Come on” I placed my hand in his and Devin helped me up.

We walked downstairs and back into the lounge room to watch the rest of Cinderella which they had paused for me, it was my secret all-time favourite movie along with nearly all Disney movies. Devin sat down in a lounge chair while I sat on the arm rest. Devin grabbed my upper arm and yanked me onto his lap, he held me tight against him and I relaxed, accepting that this was meant to be.

“You owe me twenty bucks” I heard Julian said and I turned my head to see Jack giving him twenty dollars.

“What?” Devin asked, and Julian turned to smile at us.

“We had a bet about your mate, I betted that you would accept her and Jack betted that you would reject her”

“You betted on me?”

“Yep, and since it is my sister if you hurt her I will kill you”

Devin nodded and I looked back the screen, slowly relaxing into Devin’s hold again before falling asleep.
