Second Chance

Chapter 9

I tensed up and backed away but I was blocked, they surrounded me and closed in. I realised that the other rouges were a diversion and since I hadn't joined the pack yet so I couldn't contact the pack, I did the only thing I could think of, I screamed at the top of my lungs. I jumped to the side as the rouges charged at me, I dodged the attack but that lead me to fall onto the ground. I was about to crawl back up to my feet but a giant paw stopped me from doing just that.

Its hot sticky breath sored over my face as I was laced in fear. I looked around, trying to gather anything that could help me get free from him but nothing seemed useful. I started to struggle under his grasp but that made him dig his paw dipper into my chest, his claws slicing my skin which made me scream out in pain.Pain leaped through my body, indicating that his claw was laired in wolf’s bane. I closed my eyes and started to count.

I hear the thunder of thuds on the ground

Growls fill the air

Bodies shift and a voice start to talk

“I am here to take this lovely lady, if you try to stop me I will kill her”

I hear my name e called out,

I open my eyes to see Devin and the rouges attention all on the pack

I take my chance,

I leap up and run

I run past the rouges just quick enough to escape their grasp,

I run into Devin’s waiting arms.

Julian’s pack attacked, bringing down the rouges but the one who threatened to kill me escaped. I suddenly felt very tired and leaned all my weight on Devin, I closed my eyes and the pain that was numbed by fear started to show. My skin heated up as tho it was on fire and I bit my lip, trying to scream. Devin grabbed my chin and worry spread over his face once he caught the pain that shown in my eyes.

“She’s been hit with wolf’s bane” Julian says,

Devin picked me up bridle style and started to run towards the house, black spots clouded my vision and then I was out like a light.

I woke up in a dark room, which I had come accustom to-Devin’s room. I sat up groggily and groan when all my muscles felt sore, I looked around the room and then my gaze landed on the door as it opened to a worried Devin. When he saw me awake he grinned, the smile lit up his face and graced his features with boyish feature. I smiled back at him and pushed back the blankets, suddenly hot.

Devin walked over to me and sat on the edge of the bed,

“How are you feeling?”

“Like I’ve been run over by a truck”

He ducked his head, “I’m sorry I didn’t get there in time”

“It’s not your fault” I said, playing with the blanket, and then I remembered. “Oh”

“What?” Devin asked,

I put my hand in my pocket and wrapped it around the cool metal, I brought it out and handed it to him with a smile,

“You forgot your phone”

Another smile lit up his features and I felt enchanted by it, it grabbed my attention and left me awestruck. Devin’s hand went to his face,

“What, do I have something on my face?”

I shook my head as a light blush spread across my face and he eyed me suspiciously, Devin grinned evilly before he leaned over and started to tickle me. I bit my lip to stop from laughing but giggles seeped through and then it grew into loud laughter. I was laughing like a hyena but ruined the fun when I snorted; Devin stopped tickling me and raised an eyebrow at me.

“Did you just snort?”

I blushed scarlet red and grabbed his pillow, hitting Devin with it, “Shut up” I muttered.

Devin’s arms wrapped around me, “I love you still, snort and all”

I shoved him aside but then I froze, “Y-You love me?”

Devin looked at me and nodded, “Yeah I do, I love you”

I moved closer to Devin and snuggled up against his side, he draped his arm around me, “I love you too Devin, arrogance and all”

He pouted at me and snuggled his head into my neck, I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and closed my eyes. I laid my head on his shoulder and fell into a quiet sleep.

I woke up again in the dark room, I jumped out of the bed but Devin had other ideas and pulled me back to his chest. I sighed,

“I just want to go to the bathroom”

“No” he muttered childishly,

“You have beta duties as well”

He muttered something under his breath that I didn’t quite catch, Devin reluctantly let me go and I walked to the bathroom and had a shower. I wrapped myself in a towel once I had finished my shower and walked into the bedroom. Devin was putting on a black shirt and turned towards me when I tried to sneakily walk towards the wardrobe but I ended up failing miserably.

Devin’s eyes darkened when he saw a scar running up my leg, it was a battle scare from that day when everything fell apart. I blushed then practically ran into the wardrobe. I changed into jeans and a hoddie with converse before I walked out and met Devin who was waiting for me.  

He leaned down and gave me a kiss, he pulled back and grinned at me, and he grabbed my hand and opened the door for me. I stepped out into the hallway as did Devin; he closed the door behind him and pulled me along as we walked towards the kitchen for breakfast.

I sat down at the table and that’s when all the windows shattered.
