I was awoken to the amazing smell of pancakes and eggs. Even from room 13, you could smell the food Beth was cooking for breakfast. Quickly, I got in the shower and began preparing myself for the day. When i was done, i began to dress myself in light skinny jeans and a black sweater. I paired the simple outfit with my black converse shoes. Since I had no hair dryer or even motivation to try, I left my dark brown hair damp in it's natural waves. My stomach grumbled for the second time that morning, and i decided to finally give in. With that, I grabbed my phone off the charger along with a book and left for the small dining room.

The dining room was just off the lobby. When I walked in, there were very few people there, just a few other guests and a few staff members having their coffee before starting their day.

With a smile on my face, I made my way to the food. I piled my plate with no shame and made my way to an empty table in the corner of the room.

This would probably be my place for the the remainder of the day.

Just as i finished a chapter of the novel i was reading, I realized i drank all my coffee and returned to the machine to get another cup.

That's when my body collided with that of another person's.

"Fuck!"

It was a deep Australian accent and I was afraid to look up. But i did.

I was met with the face of the boy behind the counter. His deep chocolate eyes only held pure anger. Immediately, I began apologizing profusely and trying to get the coffee out of his shirt with a napkin that was behind me.

He grabbed my wrist harshly causing me to cease my actions and look up.

"Just watch where you're going." He mumbled before letting go of my wrist and pushing away. I watched him walk away and immediately I felt terrible, but i decided to just go back to my table and read.

Soon, Beth came out to start cleaning up, so I closed my book and got up. I tapped her right shoulder with the book and scared her. When Beth saw me, she almost dropped a dish with excitement.

She placed it quickly on the table and pulled me into a tight hug. Beth was like a mom to me. She was in her mid-forties and had honey blonde hair that fell just beneath her shoulders.

"How've you been sugar?" she said in her thick southern accent as she released me.

"I've been okay. How about you? How's Tim?" I asked. Her face immediately lit up at the mention of her husband.

"He's great. Got a job downtown at this big corporation now!" she said with excitement.

I was happy for her. She used to barely make ends meet; she deserves this.

"Can you help me in the kitchen today Doll? We have a few more guests coming in right before lunch time and I haven't even started cookin' yet." She asked.

"Of course! That's much better than what I had planned for today." I laughed.

"What was your plan?" she asks with pure curiosity. I shift awkwardly.

"Um. Sit in that chair, and read this book." I said pointing to my previous seat. Beth shook her head and laughed before leading me to the kitchen.

I needed to eat obviously. I tried to pay for my room and for food, but I didn't have enough. Emerson wanted to just turn a blind eye, but I told him I had to at least work for it. So we struck a deal: I would help around the hotel and get to stay and get fed. Beth said i could help her serve if I wanted to that night, and since there was nothing else for me to do at the moment, I went for it. Plus, I got to hang out with Beth so time would pass quicker.

With a notepad in hand and a pen behind my ear, I began taking orders. The first was an older couple and they were very kind. It became an easy routine until I went to the table with four boys my age.

I recognized one of them immediately as Calum, the boy who worked here...the one i spilled coffee all over this morning.

"Hi. What can I get you to drink?" I asked quietly; I'm surprised I didn't stutter. But Calum interrupted the boy with bright flaming hair.

"You don't even work here."

"I do for now." I defended quickly.

"So Should I ask Emerson about that?" He asks as if this has an effect on me.

"Of course you can!" I fake politeness until I began my next sentence. "But right now, if i was you, I would kindly sit my ass down in the chair and decide what I wanted to drink." I crossed my arms over my chest. There was an awkward pause until someone spoke up.

"I'll have a coke please." Said the boy with curly honey blonde hair. I smiled at him. Soon, everyone ordered their drinks; even Calum mumbled about a coffee. Ironic.

Soon after I brought them their drinks, they ordered their food, it was placed in front of them and I silently thanked God I didn't need to speak to them until it was time to pay.

I brought them the check and Calum put his card in my hand.

"I'll pay for all of them too. I'm surprised you didn't spill anything." He smirked. I rolled my eyes before walking off. Of course, I tripped over my feet. Just my luck. But I didn't turn around when I heard a chuckle behind me; I brushed it off.

I was mentally and physically exhausted and was done for the day. Finally, I could go to my room to get some sleep.
