This manic behavior led to a downfall in his and Mickey's relationship (seeing that he was refusing to take his medication at this time) and he there's moments where he even admits he doesn't know what's wrong with him (when he puts a knife to Kenyatta's throat, for example) and his sanity is slipping away due to this illness
• ❝ Baby, did you forget to take your meds ❞ this seemed to be the number one question asked every time Ian freaked out. Even in season 7 when he let the girl out of the straps he was asked that. I feel that he just got so sick of that question, and if you listen to the song, as someone with this illness that question pisses me off, and it's repeated over and over again as if to represent everyone else asking "are you okay?" "Did your take your meds" every time you fuckin breathe differently or something, even if it's not drastic
