• ❝The situation gets rough and I start to panic, it's not enough, it's just a habit, and kid you're sick, well darling this is it❞ this time only is talking about the doctors telling Ian that he's mental and making him feel insane and abnormal, but it's the bipolar talking to him and controlling him
• This song is not about society when it references ❝Well you can all just kiss off into the air❞ but it's more relating to the doctors who are telling him that he's ill
• ❝behind my back, I can see them stare❞ is for Fiona, Mickey, Lip, etc. everyone that is worried about Ian- especially Mickey- and is making him feel watched, like he isn't his own person anymore and now that he has this illness he can't have freedom
• ❝They'll hurt me bad, but I won't mind, they'll hurt me bad, they do it all the time❞ As mentioned in season 7, this is talking about the "demons", the voices telling him things
• let me explain- the ❝I take(s)❞ are as in drugs/meds
• ❝One 'cause you left me❞ At the end of season 3 Mickey and Ian's relationship had a downward spiral, and we thought it might be the end of their relationship. This sparked Ian to join the army. He then came back after going AWOL and until Mickey had searched for him, him and Mickey were seemingly over.
• ❝Two for my family❞ do I need to even fucking explain this one? His family obviously played a huge part in how much sanity he had left- which was very little at the end of season 4
• ❝Three for my heartache❞ Not only from his separation with Mickey but from the lack of attention he got from his family and the shit Monica put him through, of course the kid has a fucking broken heart
• ❝Four for my headaches❞ Not only from working in a fucking night club ALL NIGHT but also from his low lows causing his brain to hurt- before you say wtf I have bipolar and your brain convinces itself that it's hurting and in need of a power-down when you have a manic depression (aka: low low)
