• season 3 Ian
❝ I'll be a dreamer 'til the day I die
But they say oh, how the good die young
But we're all strange
And maybe we don't wanna change ❞
-Spirits, The Strumbellas
Reasoning
• ❝ I'll be a dreamer til the day I die ❞ in season 3, young, innocent Ian is still trying to find himself- not sexuality wise but just trying to get a sense of direction for his future, not only with Mickey but with his career (like WestPoint, he dreamed of going there but didn't make it in and lost the control he had over his future)
• ❝ But they say oh, how the good die young ❞ we all know what the phrase "only the good die young means" - and if you don't, it's saying that if you never take risks then it'll be like you're dying young even if you're not because you haven't experienced the values of life- and Ian realized in season 3 that in order to go somewhere in his life, he needs to risk it all- Mickey, his family, college, WestPoint
• ❝ But we're all strange; And maybe we don't wanna change ❞ life in general is strange but this reminds me more of the fact that Mickey and Ian had to deal with heavy homophobia in season 3 but Ian knows that everyone- even Terry if we got more backstory on his character (another reason I need a fucking Milkovich spinoff) has some weird flaws- and everyone is different in their own way and Ian tries to teach Mickey that in season 3 and in season 4 it proves that he actually did a hell of a good job
