I woke up the next morning in a strange room. I searched around the tiny bedroom, looking for any clues as to where I might be. I was still fully clothed from the night before and I didn’t feel as if I was in any danger so I pulled the covers from my legs and dangled them over the side of the bed. My head was not happy with me at all. Some parts felt numb, while other pieces felt like a hammer had been pounded against it. As soon as some of the blood returned to my brain, I remembered whose place I must be at. I jumped up from the bed, falling over, partly due to my hangover and mostly because my upper body was tangled in sheets. Luckily I landed on the carpeted floor with a soft *thud*. I crawled over to the lengthwise mirror that was hung next to the door. I wanted to disappear in some dark hole when I saw my reflection. I looked like death. I quickly stood up, adjusting my clothes and my ragged hair. Swiftly I turned around, desperately hoping there would be a bathroom in this closet space of a room. In my failed attempt, I noticed a sheet of paper sitting on the bedside dresser. I made my way over to it in a few, short steps, never taking my eyes from it. His perfect penmanship flowed gracefully down the college-ruled paper.

Hello, love

You passed out in my arms last night, soon after midnight struck. Your friends weren’t too thrilled with my taking you home. Be sure to give them a call when you’re up to let them know I’m not some scummy man. I may or may not be home when you awaken…I had to pick up a suit from the dry cleaners. Make yourself at home. I laid out some toiletries for you in the bathroom (first door on your right). If I’m not home yet, promise me one thing: Don’t leave until we’ve had a proper goodbye. Please, darling.

You’re even more magnificent than the last time I saw you. I couldn’t help myself from kissing you last night. Hope you didn’t mind. xxoo

Alex

I held the note close to my heart, never wanting to set it back down. I jumped when I heard my phone vibrating. I spun around, searching for it. My purse was hanging on the door and the sound of my phone’s never-ending vibrations led me to it. I still had the note up to my chest while I dug around my purse. My fingers tingled with the vibrations when I found the phone. I drew it out, looking at the contact: Cassie. I tapped “answer” on my phone’s touch screen, picking out an annoyance in her tone, rather than a worried one. “C’mon, Sophie. Answer the damn ph…Sophie?”

"I’m alive…for now. My capturer is boiling some water right now so you better find me quickly."

She sighed heavily into the phone. “I’ve been trying to call you all night. Do you even know that guy? I mean, I saw you walk over to him last night but then soon after, you were out of it. I thought maybe he put you under some sort of hypnosis…like a vampire.”

I had to cover my mouth while I snorted and laughed like a maniac. She’s always been obsessed with vampire movies but did she actually believe they existed?

"Now that you mention it, Cas, I did notice some fangs. He must’ve put me under some kind of spell. Shit, now I’m scared."

She smacked her lips, clearly annoyed with how well I was taking my abduction. “Sophie, it’s not funny. Come on. Do you need me to come pick you up? Are you still with him? Let me know something because I have been worried about you all night.”

I softened my tone. I knew she must have been worried sick. And I know how big of a charmer Alex could be when he wanted something. “I’m alright, sweetie. I promise. He’s an old…friend of mine. He would never do anything to hurt me. I don’t think he’s home right now but he’ll be back soon. I’ll call you later, ok?”

"Ok. But you better keep me updated of your whereabouts. Or I will get the police involved."

I laughed at her bluff. “Promise. Bye, Cassie.” She grumbled out a short “bye” before I hung up.
