In the summer, I had began working at McDonald's while Jordan was in Peru with his family. I had no knowledge of his existence my first month because he decided to take the entire summer off. The school year had started and I have a faint memory of the first time we worked together. It was actually the first day of school and it was Ashlyn, Jordan, and I working. We had barely shared words and I actually thought he was a new employee until Ashlyn told me he'd been there before I got hired. Once again, I still felt like the newbie. Our schedules were always different, there were rare occasions where we worked together. I worked in the morning, he worked at night. I worked at three and he came in at six. I didn't really get to talk to Jordan until November.
I remember for a whole week I had to get someone to cover my shift because I was taking the SAT and of course, Justin sucked at time-off requests. I would ask everyone to see if I could switch with them but no one would want to. I started offering money and still, no one would take my damn shift. But of course, God's miracle was sent my way and there was Jordan. I asked him about switching shifts and bless his soul, he agreed. I think my excitement was overwhelming and I wanted to hug him but it would have been awkward since we've barely spoke. I would say this was the first time we've switched shifts but I also remember switching shifts with him again, although we ended up working together that morning. I came in that morning cranky and upset because Maria called me telling me that Jordan hadn't showed up and I had to come in. As I walk to the door, I look at the drive-thru window and see Jordan handing out food! I see him and he starts apologizing like the little Canadian he is, and I just start handing him food. I think that was the first day we've actually talked all day as coworkers. I saw how cool and sweet he was and ended up being one of my favorite people to work with, behind Jaide and Kelly, of course. I like to believe in signs, and I think that day was meant to happen.
