Sorry guys. I forgot to mention that the time spent in Ganon's fortress was a few months, maybe about 6 or 7. So that's cleared up now.

Dark's eyes slowly fluttered open, going unnoticed for the most part until he joined in. I stopped singing after I caught on and heard Dark's voice, still playing the harp and glancing down at Dark's smiling face as he continued. As we finished, we were a smiling mess, gazing into each other's eyes. Dark reached his hand up, cupping my cheek.
"I missed you."
I smiled, stray tears streaming down my cheeks as I embraced his form tightly.
"I missed you too, you big jerk."
-----------------------------------------------------------

Dark was the first to let go, looking around his surroundings before returning to me.

"How long were you alone? It feels like I've been dead forever." His face darkened at the thought of being dead for a long time.

My fingers combed through his hair, waiting a few seconds before responding.

"I was in Ganon's fortress for a while, so there's your answer." I turned away, hesitant to know what his expression was after hearing I was in Ganon's fortress.

"I'm glad you're okay. I wish I could say the same for myself."

I turned back to look at him. He was right. His skin was deathly pale, and he was about as skinny as me.

"I don't know about you, but I don't think I'll be able to return to my duties for a while, so I need you to replace me until I'm back to full health. Can you do that for me?"

I knew I had to do it. If someone didn't assume Dark's position, it would leave the castle unprotected, and Dark can barely stand on his own right now.

"Anything for you. I thought that would be obvious after I risked my life to bring you back." I smiled, picking him up bridal style and carrying him to his room.

"You know, this is supposed to be the other way around, but I kind of like it at the moment. Thank you." Dark rested his head on my shoulder as we made our way up the stairs, past the servants, and into his room.

After getting Dark into bed and making sure he had everything he needed, I turned to leave but was caught by Dark's hand on my arm.

"You look tired, (y/n). Stay in here and rest with me. The world can wait until tomorrow."

I nodded and settled next to him under the covers, snuggling close to him for both of our comforts. I knew I wouldn't sleep that night, but it was nice that I was here and making Dark feel better. Speaking of which, my thoughts are interrupted by his gentle snores at my back.

Dark was sleeping peacefully for once. Previously, if he wasn't asleep he was jumped awake by his recurring night terrors. I'm hoping his dreams don't become nightmares tonight. He needs his rest from recent events, more than I do.

After a few hours of watching him, I carefully get out of his hold on me and put one of his tunics on because they are super comfortable for one, and two, because if I'm going to be Dark's replacement until he's back to full health I might as well look the part somewhat.

After getting freshened up, I head downstairs to get some breakfast.
"Good morning, master- oh, it's just miss, (y/n). Good morning miss." One of the maids curtsies as I enter the kitchen.

"Good morning ladies and gentlemen. As you've seen and heard, Dark is back, but he will not be able to take on his duties so he has asked me to act in his stead. I don't know when he will be well enough to return to his work, but until that happens, we must continue our work as normal and take care of Dark as well." I look over the staff as I'm addressing them, each face determined in their job and their eyes showing the utmost respect; some have admiration in their eyes.
