Lillie was dozing off. After a long trip across the sea, she had obtained her sea legs, and was growing tired. Especially with the boat rocking back and forth so gently, and how she'd been traveling basically all day; it was nearly nighttime now.

Lillie's eyelids drooped, and she stifled a yawn. Suddenly, the boat's horn blared, jerking Lillie awake. The girl looked around, hands clenching the rails, and saw something coming up. It was an island... or, a region?

"Kanto - coming up in ten minutes!" shouted the man from behind the glass at the center of the boat, holding a mechanical wheel.

Lillie felt her chest tighten with nervousness. So that's Kanto, she thought. I must be so far from Alola by now... She was taking her plan into full throttle, but did she have the courage to go through with it? Of course, there was no turning back now; she was going on a journey, and Professor Kukui promised that he would contact the Pokémon Professor of Kanto, Professor Oak.

"Just breathe, Lillie," the girl said to herself quietly, self-conscious despite hardly anyone else being on the boat. "You're doing this for yourself, and... Mother."

The thought of Lusamine lying on her bed, asleep still because of the Nihilego poison caused Lillie to not look at Kanto in fear, but hope. Bill's there, she thought, and there's a chance that he can help Mother.

Lillie indeed wanted to change herself, for both her and her friends, but it was her family that Lillie was going for. Well, mostly her mother than Gladion.

Lillie's brother was... different from her. He was cold - or, at least that's the emotion he usually used as a facade. But recently, before Lillie left for Kanto, Gladion had shown some kindness. He even stepped up boldly as the Aether Foundation's temporary president in place of their mother. And it must've took a lot of care to even attempt to steal a Type: Null from the lab... Maybe Gladion cared a lot more than he'd let on for so many years.

The boat Lillie was on eventually arrived at Kanto, which looked way bigger than it had from out at sea. There were many Pokémon - some she'd never seen in person before, like the cream-and-tan-colored birds with pink beaks that flew in flocks (though she knew they were called Pidgey, thanks to the various books she'd read on Kanto Pokémon). The harbor - according to the captain - was in a city known as Vermillion City. Lillie had read about it; it was home to the third Gym in the region's League. If she remembered correctly, the Gym specialized in Electric-types. Vermillion City was many colors, but mostly shades of yellow. People bustled about, most with Pokémon at their sides. Lillie was beginning to grow a little excited.

The ship eventually came to a stop at the harbor, the side of the boat next to the boardwalk.

"We've arrived at Vermillion City!" the captain bellowed. "Kanto region! Everybody off!" A metal staircase appeared from the side of the boat and landed snugly on the boardwalk, and the guardrails there opened up like a gate.

Lillie pushed her hands off of the guardrail and clenched the straps of her backpack. Her legs tried to not move, but with enough force, Lillie was walking herself towards the stairs. Other people walked quicker, though, and she hesitantly stopped to let them go. Every time someone bumped into her, the girl would squeak an apology.

At last, Lillie had stepped down the stairs and onto the wooden boardwalk. Her steps were a little wobbly initially due to being used to the rocking of the boat, but she got the hang of solid land again.

Lillie walked past a couple of people and Pokémon who were headed onto the boat to Alola, and her feet met a sidewalk. Vermillion City had many buildings, some big and small, and a Pokémon Center not too far away. Lillie decided to try starting out there, and even call Professor Kukui. I wonder if he got in contact with the other Professor, she thought as she walked to the red-roofed building.

When she entered, the first thing Lillie noticed was that there was no mart in the Center. When she asked the Nurse Joy about it - whose hair was down rather than up like the Alolan Nurse Joy's - she said that in Kanto, Poké Marts and Pokémon Centers were two separate buildings.

"Oh, okay, thank you," Lillie grinned.

The Nurse Joy nodded, then smiled. "You're new to Kanto, aren't you? I can tell by the way you look."

Lillie felt her cheeks light up a little. "I-I look different?"

"Not exactly different, I'd say," Nurse Joy responded. "Just... not Kantonian. Where're you from?"

"O-oh, uh, Alola," Lillie replied, holding her backpack straps even tighter.

"Well then, welcome to Kanto, sweetheart," Nurse Joy grinned.

Lillie bashfully thanked her before heading over to the video-calling machines. There were three of them against either wall on both sides of the Center, and Lillie used on to call Professor Kukui. However, she didn't know what time it would be in the tropical region she called home.

When the Professor answered, it looked like it'd be in the afternoon.

"Alola, Lillie!" the man beamed, a Lycanroc sitting on the floor next to his swivel chair. "How're things so far?"

"Good, Professor," Lillie replied formally. "I-I'm in Vermillion City now, a-and I just arrived..."

"It must be getting late over there," Professor Kukui commented. "I contacted Samuel -" He was referring to Professor Oak "- and he said he'd be coming to get you in a while. That was, like, ten minutes ago, though, so he must be on his way there."

"H-he's giving me a ride?" Lillie asked. "O-oh! He didn't have to..."

"Don't worry about it!" Professor Kukui said. "Samuel is really friendly! You can stay a night at his lab, and then you'll get a starter and be on your way."

A starter! Lillie felt giddy at the thought of having her own Pokémon. After overcoming her fear of merely touching Pokémon, Lillie imagined having her own starter as exciting. Then, the girl - out of hope and curiosity - asked suddenly, "I-is Bill's lab near Pallet Town? Or at least on the way?"

"Yes," Professor Kukui replied. But then he rubbed the back of his neck. "Unfortunately, Bill is out. He'll be back in a while, though. But until then, plans will go correctly, and you're headed for Pallet Town."

"Alright then," Lillie nodded, though she was disappointed.

"Anyway, Samuel's on his way, so all you need to do is wait," Professor Kukui grinned. "I gotta go. Hope you enjoy it in Kanto!"

"Thank you, Professor," Lillie dipped her head and said. "Bye."

"See ya, Lillie!" Professor Kukui said. And then, he hung up, leaving Lillie in a Pokémon Center in the Kanto region.
