Sage had lost everything, her mind kept telling her the same thing over and over again, you're surviving, not living. The realization that she had been sacrificing her life for the Alliance overtook her.
She was raised by Jedi, they would be watching her actions, she couldn't do this. Darth Vader waited for her across the hall, standing patiently. She knew who he was. She knew the secrets that stopped him and his family from becoming the most powerful family in the galaxy.
Protect Luke and Leia, she thought. Protect Han and Chewy, protect Cassian and Jyn. Protect Bodhi. The thoughts ran through her mind faster than the millennium falcon could fly. She needed to do this, to protect them.
Sage's hands laid flat against the floor of the star destroyer, Darth Vader's words ringing in her mind, "Join me, embrace your true power."
Her mind logically told her it was a very bad idea, that she wouldn't be able to come back from this. The rest of her body wanted it more than anything. She was pushed around by the Alliance for too long. And if she did join Vader, she could protect those she loved since he was sitting there threatening to kill them all.
Her knees began to hurt, laying against the hard, polished floor. She could tell Vader was starting to get impatient. Her head twisted as sweat and tears dripped down her face. She didn't have the power to face the monster that stood before her, not on the light side.
I'm sorry, she thought, hoping that her parents would somehow hear her. She then found the anger in herself, the anger and hatred, the suffering that she's been through for the past couple years, everything built up and then sent her over the edge.
She stood up tall, her tears stopping. It was as thought a switch had been flipped, her mind had already started to tell her things that she wouldn't have wanted to hear ten minutes ago. You are powerful, use your anger to destroy those who have and will wrong you.
Darth Vader stood before her, feeling the Dark Side slowly take over the girl before him. The girl he had been trying to get since he knew of her existence and he had succeeded. When he was sure she turned he deactivated his blood red lightsaber.
"Welcome," he paused as she lowered her head in a small bow, "my new apprentice."
