Grabbing it by it's knocker, I opened the door to 221B. Stepping inside, I hear a familiar voice call out,
"Clara, dear, are you home?"
"Yes, Ms Hudson." I call back, pulling off my jacket. ms Hudson's face appears in the doorway of 221A.
"Oh, hello, Clara," she shifts her weight. I smile and nod at her. "I was just wondering--well, you're gone so often--maybe, well, are you having an affair, Clara?"
My eyes get a bit wider and I stare at her in shock. "Ms Hudson! No--of course not." then I feel my face break into a smile. I let out a laugh. "Of course not, Ms Hudson. Work's been busy, is all."
Ms Hudson smiles back at me. "Oh, well, of that's all then. I'm sorry to bother you,"
"No, it's perfectly alright. Have a good day," I say.
"You too, sweetheart." Ms Hudson disappears into her flat with a nod. But before I can start up the stairs, her head pops back. "Oh, and Clara, you must've left your music on. I've been hearing the violin all morning." I look at her, confused, and rush on the stairs.
In 221B, the only source of light is coming from the windows. Sherlock is again in his chair, playing the violin. That must've been what Ms Hudson had heard from downstairs.
"Sherlock!" I hiss, standing in the doorway. I throw my jacket on the coat rack. "Violin--really?"
"Oh, hello, Clara." he says, feigning politeness. "Wonderful weather, isn't it?"
"I've been meaning to talk to you--" we speak in unexpected unison. A beat.
"You go first--" we both say again. I grin.
"Clara. Go." Sherlock says, a ghost of a smile playing on his lips as well.
"Well, I've been meaning to talk to you about this Doctor," I begin.
"Oh, good, I've had questions about him." Sherlock says, standing.
"Okay, then, let me explain." I take a breath. "The Doctor is a time-traveller. He has two hearts,"
Sherlock scoffs, "Clara, have you gone mad? Time travel is scientifically impossible and no human can possess two hearts!"
I knew this wouldn't work, I think to myself. I sigh, clench my jaw, and continue. "But that's just it--the Doctor isn't human. He's part of a species called the Timelords. The Timelords have the ability to travel anywhere in time and space in these machines they call TARDISes. TARDISes are bigger on the inside, or transdimensional, and can change appearances tp disguise themselves in any place or time period that they land in. The Doctor's TARDIS is stuck looking like a police box from the 1960s." I stop to see how Sherlock is handling this.
Sherlock's face is blank. He stands in front of me, hands in that position again, silent. "Oh, Clara. You really have gone mad. Don't worry, I know some people who--"
"No! Sherlock," I shout, more worked up than I want to be. "I'm not mad. I'm perfectly sane--this is all real. Look, I have a TARDIS. I can show you. Please,"
Sherlock sighs. And... is that pity I see in his eyes?
"Alright, Clara. Show me your 'TARDIS.'" he says. He doesn't believe me, obviously. But I will make him believe.
