"BELLE! Shut up I can't hear the movie anymore!" I yell at her while throwing a pillow at her face.
"Sorry! But you know how much I hate this movie!" She says pouting from her spot on the floor."And you guys know how much I hate princess diaries! This is revenge for both movies!" I say glaring daggers at my best friends.
"Alright, you win. I'm gonna go make some popcorn." Belle says getting up and walking out of the room. We were watching her least favorite movie Beauty and the Beast. They already made me sit through both princess diaries movies. I hate those movies, like it would ever actually happen. It is extremely unrealistic and it bothers me so much. Belle hides in the kitchen for the last 20 minutes of the movie. Once the movie is over I look at my phone on my lap.
"Oh, I have to go apparently Grammy is here." I say standing up out of my chair and heading for the door. "I'll see you both at the bowling alley tomorrow right?" I ask and they nod their heads before I run out the door of their house. Belle and Tia are twins and have been my best friends for as long as I can remember. I jump into Grammy's car and she pulls away from the curb.
"Did you have a nice movie night?" She asks.
"It was great! Just what I needed after a long week at school." I say and Grammy laughs.
"By the way your mother called just as I was coming to pick you up. She asked if you could swing by tonight she really wants to talk to you." Grammy says pulling on to my parent's street."Did she sound sober and alone?" I asked.
"I wouldn't be pulling up otherwise." Grammy says and I laugh as we stop outside the house. I climb out of the car and look around. Oh good dad's car is nowhere in sight. I slowly open the door to the house. I walk inside and look into the living room to luckily just see my mom there. I have taken some pretty severe beatings from my dad in the past and the thought of another one scares me. I close the door and watch this wicked smile grow on my mom's face."Oh good. You made it." My mom says and a moment later the smell of alcohol hits me like a ton of bricks. "I just wanted to tell you, that Ben really isn't your father, and he just wanted to show you how much he hates you." She says as a gag is slipped over my mouth and secured. I turn around and only get a fleeting glance at Ben before I am on the ground with blood gushing out of my nose. Before I can react to anything I start feeling blows to my stomach and ribs. Some of the blows violent enough that I can taste blood in my mouth. I don't know how long I laid on that floor while the beating went on...it seemed like an eternity before it stopped. I waited a while until I could no longer hear anyone in the room before I forced myself up and was barely able to remove the gag because of the pain I was in. I dragged myself out of the house and I was halfway down the path when my grandmother spotted me. She ran over and helped me into the car.
"Samantha, what happened?" She asked getting into the car and starting it back up."He was waiting behind the door. Mom was not as drunk as usual, but drunk enough to be cruel." I say curling up in the seat.
"Well this is the last straw." Grammy says and pulls into the police station. "Stay here I will be right back." She says and walks away from the car. I remained in that seat for about 10 minutes before I heard someone approaching. I heard a gasp when the cops saw me.
"Take her to the hospital, we will meet you there." One of the officers says and Grammy climbs back into the car and we head towards the hospital. It was a long couple of hours sitting in an exam room, many pictures for the case against my parents, and x-rays later we found out that a few of my ribs were bruised, my right wrist was severely sprained, and my ankle that apparently was stepped on is broken. I got my cast put on, and was given a brace for my wrist luckily both injuries would fully heal by themselves. After telling the police everything the hospital discharged me and the police left to talk to my parents. Once we got back to the one-story house my Grammy and I live in she wheels me into my bedroom. I get to be in a wheel chair for a few days before I can crutch around on my wrist."Grammy can I ask you a question?" I say once I am in my bed.
"Of course darling. What is it?" She asks taking a seat on the edge of my bed."Well, before the whole thing went down tonight. Mom told me that Ben is not my father. What did she mean?" I ask and my grandmother takes a deep breath.
"I have been waiting for this day. This whole thing will be better explained once I grab something." Grammy gets up off my bed and heads out of my room, she returns a few minutes later with a wooden box. "So this is a very long story dearie. About 19 years ago your mother went on vacation in London. She met a very nice gentleman while she was over there, they had been dating about 2 years, when your mother found out she was pregnant with you. When she told him she was pregnant he wanted to see her, so he flew her out to a palace in a country called Genovia. Once she was there he told her who he really was. He was the Prince of Genovia. Your mother did not think she could handle being royalty so she said goodbye. But your father still signed your birth certificate." She explained then passed me the box. "This box is full of letters that I had to hide from your mother, they are all from your father. I sent him videos and pictures of you growing up and he would write you letters." She says.
"But why is all of this being told to me only now?" I ask her."Well, I never thought it was right to hide the truth from you, but your mother never wanted you to know. Your father said on the day you were born that if he didn't hear from you by the time you turned 16 he would reach out to you. Well his mother, the former queen of Genovia is here to meet with you." My grandmother explains.
"My other grandmother wants to meet with me? When?" I ask her.
"Well originally we were going to do this the day after your birthday but I think you will be meeting her sooner. I will call her later today and talk to her. Now since it is after midnight it is your birthday and you can still bowl in a wheel chair so get some sleep." Grammy says before getting up and leaving my room. I curl up and just stare at the wall. Wow, my life is really about to change.
