I grunted as Connor planted his foot on my shoulder. "Are you okay?" "Yeah. Don't expect a fast ride, though." I whispered. Connor readjusted his shoe before uttering, "Up." I slowly adjusted to Connor's weight on my shoulders as I pushed up to a stand. "How are you holding up?" "Just jump, Connor!" He nodded before launching off of me to reach for the ledge above us.
I sighed as Connor's weight lifted, relieving the pressure he put on my leg. My whole body was mildly sore from all the work I wasn't used to after sitting around for a week. Although the wound hasn't fully healed, I had been training and have gotten strong enough to the point to where I can climb.
But, even that has it's limits. I can't leap large gaps. I have to be careful while climbing vertically, so I don't add too much pressure on my leg. I have to use more arm strength while climbing poles for the same reason. Connor insisted I stay at the homestead for this mission, but Achilles said that I needed to run an actual mission.
We were looking for Lee.
During our planning of this mission, we decided to ask the help of Patriot ships. Lee was held up at Fort George, the fort we stand in now, and it would take a distraction to get through the fort undetected, as the amount of guards simply increased when Lee entered the fort.
I turned around to look up at Connor. He was climbing this tower to light the signal for the distraction. Once he did that, the allied ships outside of the fort would fire into the fort. We had a limited time and we had to be careful. This was our most dangerous plan yet. Anything could go wrong. At anytime.
I cringed slightly at the thought of anything happening to Connor while we were here. I shook it off and turned back around, head on a swivel for any guards. Honestly, I didn't need or want any extra combat. Lee was most likely going to run when he sees us so I am going to need all the energy I can get. It's not like Connor won't help with the chase, it's just that he is a lot slower than me due to inexperience.
From what I could tell, these guys were fairly distracted with our ships on the water. Which was good for us, because this was usually a well defended fort. All the guards on this side were watching the ships. I have seen a few inwards that were patrolling, but that was maybe because they didn't know about those ships. In a few moments they would...
A large glow rained down from the top of the tower, illuminating the ground around me. That was the signal. I looked up at the top of the tower, finding Connor climbing down the side. I smiled, turning back around. I jumped back upon finding two guards holding their guns up at me. "'Ello, sweet'art." One said. The other one smirked and chuckled, "Are you the lassie who went up in that tower?"
A few cannons fired off and exploded around them. Each of them flinched from the sudden explosions, but they quickly came back to terms with each other.
"Don't be stupid, Harold! Look at 'er! She's injured. The way she's holding her leg up." "She could've though." "Did ya'?" The guards spoke. I stepped backwards and prepared to speak, but a cannon ball slammed from a close distance behind the guards and sent them flying dead. Me, on the other hand, was sent flying into a stone wall.
I hissed in pain as Connor dropped down. He grabbed my arm and pulled me off of the ground and shoved me towards the courtyard. "We need to-!" Another cannon ball slammed into a nearby building, sending Connor to the ground bleeding.
My head pounded intensely. Everything was catching up to me as I scrambled to Connor's side. I saw him craddling his side, so I assumed he slammed into that side. I remember the talk we had before this. Connor didn't want me to go because something could go wrong. This is what could go wrong.
