'Get her to emergency, stat!'

'Yes, doctor!'

Loud voices booming all around me, people hurrying around in a blur of blue and white, the distinct sound of crying babies and adults alike and doors, forced open by the gurney I was lying on. These were the sounds I heard as my eyes fluttered open and I had regained my consciousness. I couldn't think. My mind was a blank slate and I wasn't entirely sure where I was until suddenly...

Am I... In a Hospital? Everything I could remember from yesterday morning up until now, telling Kate about my audition, the car crash, the piece of metal pinning her down, the blood, the boys who, I assume, had helped us... It all came rushing back to me in a blur and I'd quickly found myself screaming aloud.

'Miss! please calm down! you'll be okay!' A nurse to the side of me called over the commotion.

'Nurse! Nurse, please!' I grabbed onto her arm to get her attention. 'Where is my friend?! She was driving the car when we crashed! Is she okay?!' The nurse's face changed immediately and for the first time, she looked down at me properly. Her eyes met mine and i could see the grave look in her eye.

'... Yes... your friend is alive but she has many broken bones and shrapnel deep inside her shoulder...' Just then, a nurse about five meters ahead of me called out to the doctor.

'Doctor!! The piece of metal is moving!' A loud crash of metal was heard and the nurse calls out again. 'It's fallen out of the patient's shoulder! She's losing too much blood!'

Kate! I lift my head up as high as possible and the sight in front of me was enough to make me feel even worse. Kate's body lay on a gurney, still, pale and bloody. There was a large, gaping hole in her shoulder and the blood had been so bad that the ends of her short, chestnut brown hair had become red and stuck to her face.

This was the most pain I'd ever felt in my life. Worse than my family's funeral. This foreign girl had been with me ever since I could remember. I would consider her more valuable than any family member I'd ever had. But now, my best friend, my sister, is lying helplessly on a hospital bed and the only thing I can do is stare in horror.

My tears flow non-stop and flashbacks of my life with Kate play.

-

My little feet patter along the wood of the bridge and I begin to wobble.

'Woah, woah... Ahh!' I squeal as the bridge tosses and I fall to the ground. Kate sprints over and kneels on the floor beside me.

'NaeNae! Are you okay?'

'It just hurts a bit.' I point down to my knee where, a graze had formed.

'Don't worry! I'll kiss it better!' She puts her tiny, soft, rosy coloured lips to my knee and the pain seemed to go away instantly. I open my mouth wide and gasp dramatically.

'It's fixed! thankyou~!' I jump up and hug her tightly.

'hehe, it's okay!' she giggles and taps me on the shoulder. 'You're it!'

-

'Put her under!' A doctor yells as he notices my tears. I am torn away from my dream and am set forth into the painful present once again.

'NO! NO PLEASE! NO! I NEED TO KNOW SHE'S OKAY! I NEED TO STAY WITH KATE!'

A mask is quickly forced onto my face and before I could free my self, I am greeted by blurriness and quickly return to unconsciousness.
