Rosalies POV

God it's hot. Why did it have to be so warm, today of all days. I rolled my eyes stretching, I was already sweating and we hadn't even started training yet. This is going to be a rough week.

I looked down at my watch, 7:50, some of the boys were cutting it fine. Usually, I wouldn't be here this early but I know what happens when you're late this week and it's not pretty. I wasn't the first here by any means it was Bren - as usual - followed by Jamie, Carson and me, I saw Trey in the kitchen and I wouldn't out it past Trent to be rushing about upstairs somewhere but there was no sign of Austin and his friends I pray for their sakes that they're not late, today will hit them like a brick never mind extra time.

Stretching my arms above my head I thought about yesterday. I was a mess! I never let anyone see me like that... ever, I don't know what came over me. There's just something about Austin I don't understand it, I must have looked like a blubbering idiot, I shook my head.

A hand clasped my shoulder making me jump.

"Daydreaming?" A now all too familiar voice whispered over my shoulder.

Turning round, I tilted my head upwards to see Austin's smiling face, "Something like that."

"Come on guys! Line up! Ten suicide sprints." My dad yelled as he came out of the house, turning round I realised everyone was here, I must have been daydreaming.

"You ready for this?" I asked as we walked across the field.

"Yeah. I'm gonna beat your sorry arse." He said laughing.

"Not even in your dreams Austin." I quipped back as we reach the end zone line.

"GO!"

We sprinted off to the line 50 yard and back, 30 yard then back, end zone and back. One! As usual Jamie was ahead followed by Austin then me, they might be in front now but I knew by half way Jamie and Austin would slow down and I'd speed up.

Coming up to the fifth set I could see Austin lagging, I smiled, these boys could barely manage ten sets never mind 35 that I did yesterday. Still, it doesn't make me like them anymore, my legs were burning by number 6 as I pass Austin. Jamie was five paces ahead, I had no clue how many the others had done but at least everyone was still running. By number eight I was by Jamie's side and passing him, at least one good thing has come out of all the extra practise. I could feel sweat running down my back finishing nine but I was looking at the home stretch now.

My heart was racing as I pushed my legs to go faster. Just one more, just one more. When I turned from the 50 yard line to go back I saw Austin sprinting after me. Crap! How did he have anything left in him, some of the others could barely carry on running and here he was speeding up, so I willed my legs to go faster. I would not be beaten, at least not in a stamina test.

The only thing with being shorter than the boys is my legs don't nearly cover as much ground and by the time I had turned from the 30 yard I could feel him gaining on me. Damn, faster Lie, go faster! My breath now like knives in my throat as I sped up again, by the time I turned from the end zone line we were neck and neck. I threw everything I had left into that last sprint my arms pumping like mad, my lungs were burning but I kept going. I gain a foot, then another, I crossed the end zone line with a yard to spare before collapsing in the grass.

A few minutes later everyone had crossed the line and my dad graciously gave us all five minutes rest so I walked over to the side lines. After taking a drink of my water I threw the rest over my head grateful for a second of relief from the heat.

"A bit warm there?" Austin laughed as the bench sagged from the weight of another person.

"No kidding!" I said rolling my eyes, "It feels like a sauna out here."

"That might have something to do with the suicide sprints."

"Well, thank you Captain Obvious." I said shaking my head. Boys!

"Anytime." He smirked.

"Where did you get that energy at the end there?" I asked.

"Well, I couldn't go easy on you could I. Someone needs to give you a run for your money." He said resting his elbows on his knees.

"And you think that's gonna be you?" I questioned raising my brow, shoving him with my shoulder.

"That's it you lazy teenagers get back in line!" My dad yelled.

"You never know miracles can happen." Austin said looking back at me as he walked onto the pitch. I shook my head in disbelief, he thought that it would take a miracle to beat me.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one in the world who's realised the more work you put in the better you get. It wouldn't take a miracle to beat me, just someone who's prepared to put the work in.

The day I put my heart and soul into football I made a promise to myself to work harder than anyone ever has because I knew there was nothing else I wanted to do in life. But even with that it hasn't made a difference, it has never mattered what I want, my life is made up of a constant stream of other peoples decisions and no matter what I choose it will always be the same outcome. No coach wants a girl on his team, no college scout looks for a girl player and no football player wants his pride crushed by a girl so why I even hope anymore is beyond me. I should just be happy with this, I will be happy with this, playing with people who care about me, what more could I ask for.

"Rosa! Get in line." I realised I was still sat on the bench, quickly grabbing my pads I sprinted to the end zone line.
