XXIX. he can see what it once meant to me.

19 8 4

flesh white
my pale milk teeth
sink into me
like i was
never a child.
open
the light
i'll die
don't
let me in
the wash to my skin
didn't sweep me in.
and i screw
the bulb tight
i was
weeping cold
drive through
the night
maniacal.
was never myself.
sad song
of myself.
want to see
that island again.
want to see
the sea again.
draw stitches
like pencil
on my own
rainy face --
could never
know the joys
of stitch
and pain
like your
lovely girlchild.
did
i
bring shame?
caged
and
medicated,
not
the perfumed creature
you once thought?

did i bring shame?cagedandmedicated, notthe perfumed creatureyou once thought?
