spiral eyes take a glance
and i
half-smile. both taking words like daggers;
how could i say anything at all.
"do you know how that makes me feel?"
(and Monkey and Charlotte
lived with each other's corpses
until the day they died)
Do you always drag your body about like that?
Does she follow you deep into your sleep?
pills, tablets, unread leaflets, the bottle cap and hiss of sparkling tongues,
and dad says, "let it be"
but i've lost all my poetry, i say
and no words could ever undo
though i'm watching you now --
seeing all the lights fading
in your wine glow grin.
