Days had passed since Alexander had departed for the war, [Your Name] often found herself unconsciously mumbling a prayer or plead every so often. They were short but, held passion in them. It would often end in the same two words ;

Stay alive.

She held the door knob, practically already shivering from the cold. Her dresses were not made for the snow fall that winter brings, there was no doubt in that. If she was quick, she'd get back home in two hours.

She felt the cool breeze hit her face as she turned the knob, it'd still been relatively calm. The markets booths were no more, the streets were almost abandoned, only having occasional carriages that would pass.

There was now a thin sheet of snow on the ground, the remaining snow melting from the sun. She stepped outside of the house, the melted snow no doubly began at the ends of her dress. She inhaled deeply continuing the walk.

[Your Name] eventually found herself in front of a small building. She entered quietly to not cause a disturbance in the quaint building. She approached the woman who sat behind the wooden desk.

"Hello, madam. The young lady that was brought here a few days ago, is it possible to visit her at such times?"

"Why yes, of course! She's been asking for you, do go on."

It'd been two days since finding the girl in such a terrible position, never once did [Your Name] go a day without visiting her. The girl seemed to enjoy her presence. She was only a child yet was feeble like an elder, walking throughout the streets carrying her child whom she was forced to have.

Her heels slightly clicked upon impact of the polished floor, she now entered a quiet room finding the young girl lying on the bed. The girl, or as she preferred to be called, Charlotte, slowly glanced towards her, a weak smile upon her face. Her frame was thin, her skin no longer held the glow most people have, it was an awful slight.

"You came."

Her voice was faint, inaudible even if not paying attention. [Your Name] simply nodded, approaching the side of the bed. She gently held Charlotte's hand, her hand was awfully cold. She glanced up towards her.

"Will you take care of him when I'm gone?"

Charlotte shakily asked, leaving her shocked at such statement. She was only sixteen years of age, and was already thinking of death. She gave a look of sympathy, slender fingers going through the younger girl's hair.

"Don't say such things, you'll be alright! When you're allowed to go out, I'll take you with me! We'll be like sisters! I'll buy you dresses, and we'll take care of him together!

She gave the fragile girl a reassuring smile as she spoke. It had only been two days since meeting the girl but, she had gotten rather close with her. She had always been desperate for siblings being the only child, she deeply felt something for the girl.

"Please, don't fill my head with lies– The doctor talks behind the door, I hear them... They say my health is declining, it'll be any day now. I feel my strength slipping away, I can't."

"No, no, you will! You're so much more stronger than what you see yourself as, you'll get through this! Just don't lose hope!"

[Your Name] felt a lump in her throat as she spoke, her vision becoming blurred. Charlotte gave a weak chuckle, lifting her other hand to reach for the girl's cheek. Her thumb stroked her cheeks giving a sort of comfort.

"Hey–– Promise me you'll raise him with love?"

Charlotte's face seemed to light up as she glanced towards the ceiling, her arm slowly fell from the woman's cheek. Her skin paled, the glimmer she once had dulled, her lids came to a close. She no longer squeezed the woman's hand. She was gone, just like that.

Gone.

Taken from the earth, her soul gripped by the terrible thing known as death. He wouldn't release her. It happened so fast.

[Your Name] screamed as she saw her delicate frame lying still on the bed. Everything was a blur. She felt figures rushing past her, some ushering her away from the young girl's body. She struggled as they did, trying to reach the girl lying on the bed.

Charlotte!

Charlotte wake up! Please!

Don't touch me! She needs me!

[ Fun Fact: I actually got emotional while writing this, what a weak bean I am!

Also, It's Alexander's Birthday, what a lovely man was born today. All sarcasm aside, he was truly an incredible man with such amazing talents. Too overworked though, I mean, he had to write America's bank but, didn't know his account balance as he'd lost his bank book. ]
