...

How silent the house had become without Philip, the atmosphere had completely changed. It was astonishing how such a thing could be changed due to the lack of presence of that cheerful child. Angelica seemed to have taken note of it too, she had been missing her duet partner. Although there would be the occasional letters sent from his boarding school, it was nothing compared to having him present. She'd often question why she could not go to school with him, it was rather heartbreaking explaining to the young girl that women were expected to stay home.

To compensate for the lack of it, Angelica was taken to classes of dance by Mrs. Washington. She seemed to look up to her as a grandmother figure, how sweet yet elegant she was. Alexander had been like a son to the couple seeing as they had no children of their own, the ones that were of Martha's previous marriage had sadly passed on. [Your Name], as a mother, could not imagine the pain the woman had gone through nor could she stand the thought of such morbid thoughts of loosing her children. They were her everything, she would only wish the best for them.

Only a few day remained until Philip would return for the summer, a tedious wait it was for her. How she longed to see his sweet angel-kissed face again. A peculiar letter had arrived quite some time ago from beloved Margarita, an invitation to stay in Albany, it'd be a break with the children. It was perhaps something they all need, it was obvious. Alexander's anger had seemingly gotten far worse, there'd be time where the slamming of the desk could be heard throughout the house. Although it seemed as if it wasn't possible, his face grew even more tired, his eyes occasionally bloodshot from the lack of sleep. Even with her best attempts, nothing could get the man to properly rest.

[Your Name]'s hand rested upon the marble-like railing, her elegant fingers tracing along the complicated design engraved on it. A sigh escaped her lips as her [Eye color] hues skimmed through the parchment once more. The children would most certainly enjoy being away, how they would jump for joy if they found out about the invitation. It'd be an offer she'd most definitely consider. Of course, she had yet to tell Alexander about it. It was uncertain what reaction he'd have on the matter.

'My beloved friend [Your Name],

It seems like decades since our last visit, how I miss your warm embraces, and maternal words. I do hope you and your family has been well. Words been spoken you've been granted with another child, I'm in disbelief that my ears had not yet heard of this till now, delayed by three years. Surely you've not forgotten of our friendship? Despite my heartache, I must tell you that our family is reuniting for the summer, Angelica will even be returning from London. I'm afraid without you, things wouldn't feel complete so, I ask you dear friend, will you join us in Albany for the summer? I encourage you to bring your children, and husband. I have a feeling they'll enjoy the scenery here.

Your equally beloved friend,
Margarita Schuyler'

Her hand grazed upon the railings as she stepped down farther down the staircase, clutching the letter close to her chest as if it were porcelain. The repetitive sound of her heels clicking upon the wooden floorboards as she approached her husband's office, she would never understand how he was able to stay in such a stuffy atmosphere for hours at a time. She did not bother knocking, and entered. She walked to where Alexander sat, placing the parchment over his work causing him to immediately glance up in confusion, and slight frustration. He placed his quill carefully back into the small glass container of ink, his gaze still fixated one her.

"Read it."

[Your Name] said bluntly, no remorse for what she'd done. That sympathy was lost quite long ago, the lack of care for anything but work deserved no less. She grew weary of his ways, waking to an empty bed, those frustrated outburst that could be heard throughout the house. It most certainly wasn't a way a family should be living, how frightening it must be for the younger ones. His gazed moved from her to the parchment, his mouth occasionally moving as he studied the invitation. He returned his gaze to her before speaking.

"A lovely offer, you should accept."

"Would you be joining us? I'm afraid we cannot be considered a family without you."

The room fell silent as Alexander sighed, his hand grasping hers. His pathetic attempted to comfort her. It was as always, nothing was new, it was all the same. His reactions no different from the last time she asked him to accompany the family somewhere. She pulled her hand away, her expression overtaken by pain. She lightly shook her head in disappointment.

"You must understand if I do not continue with my plan, I could very well lose my job. Jefferson and I are not on the best of terms, he'd do anything to take me out of the office—"

"Will you speak of anything other than your work? It seems like you consider work more important than your family."

"You know that's not at all true. I love you very much, I love my darling children equally."

"Then begin to show it."
