"Walk into homeroom and this is what I-" I was singing as I entered my new homeroom, then I saw G across the room, and just- "You're here!?!?" I exclaimed.
"Eric!" He yelled when he saw me.
"Gordon!" I yelled back.
"John!"
"Hamilton!"
That always cracked us up. I was giving G a half hug when our other friends walked in.
"Bill and Mitch!" G exclaimed.
Sometimes I thought G actually forgot our names. Brian and Matt set their backpacks down at the same table we had and we continued exchanging half hugs.
"Great-we have homeroom together..." I sighed. "Now what? I'm bored already. Anybody got food? Where's the teach-"
Brian rested a hand on my shoulder. "Did you remember to take your meds this morning?" He asked with a smirk. Matt and G laughed at that.
"Of course not! School just started-today's the day ADHD was created for!" I announced proudly. "I mean-yeah, it is terrible for first impressions! But at least it keeps everyone entertained!"
"You gotta point there!" Matt agreed. "I know the teachers don't know any of us, but it'll be boring to do all the 'get to know you' games with people we've known for years. Sure there are new kids, but then we should focus on them, get to know them, and make sure they got everything under control!"
"Preach boy!" G giggled.
The first bell rang, warning anyone still in the hallways that they had five more minutes to get to homeroom. The four of us sat down quickly so nobody in the rush could claim our table.
"So how'd you guys get here? I rode city bus." Matt said. It changed every year for us, and we knew this information would prove useful in the future.
"We biked here together." Brian said for him and G.
"I walked with Amy." I told them. They all shot me a funny look in sync.
"Is she still with Mark?" G asked.
"Yeah, they were cute last year!" Matt admitted. "They didn't break up did they?"
I rolled my eyes. "For the last time-Amy and I are just friends! She and Mark are still together, yes, but Mark got a ride from his brother and Tyler was walking with some of his other friends. Amy and I live near each other anyways so we decided to walk together!" I laughed. "Calm yourselves boys-it's still day one!"
Suddenly we heard shouting from outside the classroom door, then one loud and clear Irish yelp just as the one and only, Séan William McLoughlin, fell face-first through the doorway!
Teachers in the hall started breaking up the sudden crowd, and yelled at kids to get to class. As they did, Sean hopped up, pulled his shirt back down over his waist, and walked over when he spotted us.
Grabbing a chair near us, he pulled it up to our table, sitting in it backwards so he could rest his arms on the back. "Those stupid Sophomores seem to have forgotten who I am, eh?" He chuckled lightheartedly. He had scrapes on his arms and a red mark where his head had hit the floor. I frowned.
"You okay man? They haven't been bothering you outside school have they?" I asked. Sean was from Ireland, and lived with his older brother and sister over the school year while they went to the local college. Some of the other students here seemed to think there was something wrong with being Irish, which was a strange prejudice to have, but he was still being picked on for it.
