"Monday, October 31st. Halloween. McLoughlin house. Names of the mentioned in the year's jounal." I added a couple unenthusiastic snaps and claps to help sync sound with visual in the future, then sighed, looking into my camera sadly.
"Hospital was the last thing we wanted to hear."
I bit my lip, trying to focus enough to think of where to start. I was still so shaken, where to start?
Video diaries were the only way I could really document all my unique experiences at Karim, so I had to think about what future-me would need to hear to remember what had happened, whether I watched it five years, or twenty years from now. It was very important to me."Other than the discoveries of Tyler Oakley's anorexia and Felix's family's money touble, everything has gone reletively smoothly...up until today, that is..."
I had been going to Karim since Freshman year, making me one of the longest Karim attenders of my class. That year it had been me, Ken, Felix, Mark, Wade, Emma, Luke, Phil, PJ, Ian, Anthony, Ryan Higa and his squad of seven, Aaron (Yami), Minx, Ryan (Cry), and about one hundered others (yeah small class for California), most of which ended up moving and getting "replaced" by Sophomore year.
"About two hours ago, a bunch of us were at Tyler Scheid's house for a calm halloween party where we just hung out with friends, and talked, and drank tea, and ate pizza..." Jack gave a small smile, but it quickly faded away. "Only moments after Tyler went upstairs to take his medication...things went wrong. We were all downstairs and heard a really big crash from upstairs, and Tyler was the only one up there, so of course we all panicked knowing that his health hadn't ever been stable... Ethan ran upstairs first, followed by Mark, Amy, and Pamela Horton. Emma and I calmed everyone down as they helped Tyler upstairs...Pam later explained to us that they had found Tyler balled up and in severe pain on the floor of his room, where his medication was. The crash had been him collapsing and hitting his head on his desk, knocking over the chair along with a bunch of books...
"It took Mark and Jordan to get Tyler back downstairs...Pam told us she'd never seen him so helpless...It was so strange, seeing Tyler Scheid, the football player and wrestler, Captain of the Water Polo team, one of the toughest guys I've ever met...in pain...struggling..." I gritted my teeth to prevent the tears from leaving my eyes. "I guess you could say it really put things into a perspective fer me...Life's gonna be unpredictable, even if I expect it to be. Seeing Tyler weak was just like seeing Felix scared, or Mark nervous...wrong, very very wrong..."
I sighed again, staring just past my camera at one of the photos pinned to the cork board on my wall. A polaroid taken by me of Tyler and Mark asleep together on the floor in a New York airport, Tyler with his arm around Mark's waist, and Mark with his head on Tyler's shoulder. We had all been waiting for our flights home for winter break; Mark and Tyler to Cinncinati, and me to London, then to Dublin. It was almost a whole year ago now, but not much had changed...actually, that was a lie...
I looked back up at the camera, eyes glazed over whether I liked it or not. "When the ambulance arrived for Tyler, because there was no other known protocol at that point in time, we were told only "one family member" could ride with him to the hospital. Everyone but Mark, Amy, Pam, and Ethan were in the house, but we could see their argument through the windows and open front door. Mark and Pam knew they couldn't pass as a brother or sister of Tyler, though not aloud obviously cuz they had to cheat at least one person into the ambulance. Ethan was Tyler's next best friend, so I thought he should go along, but Amy ended up going as Tyler's sister. To no one's surprise, she did pass as his sister, and got to go along, which is how Mark and Ethan managed to find his room about an hour ago..."
I unlocked my phone and found the pictures both Emma and I had ended up taking.
"As the ambulance left, Emma took this picture-"
