My story doesn't have a happy ending. My story hasn't even finished being written. This isn't a story about love and easy times. This is a story drawn from the cold truths of reality. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's go back to the the beginning.

The dreaded day arrived. This first day would launch me into a whirlwind of confusion, judgement, and possible death. It was the first day of school. It was my last year and I was desperate for it to be a good one. The day started with an old enemy: my alarm clock. After I tried shooting it with my brain I dragged myself out of bed. This was a terrible idea. I fell face first onto the cold wood floor and cursed. I got into the shower and let the warm water massage my back slowly waking up my tense body. After about ten minutes I shut off the water and grabbed my fluffy white  towel. I dried off and headed back to my room to get dressed. I decided on a black cold shoulder ribbed sweater and some ripped denim jeans. I blowdried my dyed gray hair and slipped on my black converse. I looked into my mirror looking over myself. My dark blue eyes met with the matching set in the mirror for a moment and I turned away. I put my phone in my back pocket, grabbed my backpack and headed to the kitchen. "Good morning" I heard my father call out from behind his newspaper. I shrugged him off and popped some bread in the toaster and poured myself a bowl of Cheerios. While I was eating I heard someone stomping down the stairs. "Good morning" he tried again and my twin responded with a groan. She had wavy blonde hair to match her set of blue eyes. She was wearing a gray sweater with bold lettering "When in doubt, Vacation" and a pair of light blue skinny jeans. She had sunglasses balancing on top of her head and wore honey/sand colored high ankle booties.
"You're awfully cheerful this morning Jackson," I called as she punched me in the shoulder. "hurry up and eat. Don't you want to be early?" She grabbed a banana and a bowl of cereal and continued to grumble. "Why is summer over? Can't I just go back to bed and sleep till noon?" I laughed as I cleared my plate. I grabbed my bus pas, my earbuds, and my wallet and stuffed them into my backpack. After a few minutes Jackson finished and we said good bye to Dad. I glanced at the clock. It was 7:00. "Lets go Jackie or we are going to miss the bus" My parents gave up on driving us to and from school in middle school. They said it was to teach us independence and that it was better for the environment but they had electric cars and an excuse to sleep in. We arrived at our first stop and were met by some of the others kids in the neighborhood. The 9 bus wasn't coming for about fifteen minutes so we took the chance to get coffee and a small treat from Great Harvest. When the bus finally arrived I still had almost an entire cup of coffee but I had already greedily eaten my cinnamon bun. When we got to school the doors were still closed and I took the time to fully look at my school. It was a big white building with polished windows. You could see the beautiful brown frame of the old building. In the front there were little flower gardens guarding the bottom windows. There was a long pathway which split off in four directions leading to the building and to different places on campus. There was a fountain in the center of the cross that glistened in the mornings. I looked at my phone. It was 7:30 we had about 15 minutes until the doors opened. I took out my earbuds and turned on The Phoenix (Play music now). I sang along in my head.
Hey young blood
Doesn't it feel like our time is running out?
I'm gonna change you like a remix
Then I'll raise you like a phoenix
Wearing our vintage misery
No, I think it looked a little better on me
I'm gonna change you like a remix
Then I'll raise you like a phoenix
Put on your war paint
After a few more songs the doors finally opened and students poured in. Jackson and I looked for some of our friends when a voice called out, "AVERY!! JACKSON!!" We both turned and saw our best friend. Yes twins can have the same best friend. She had definitely changed since the last time I saw her. She had grown out her brown hair and dyed it pink and had grown a good three inches. She was wearing a gray sleeveless strappy ribbed crop top and denim high waisted shorts. She had on high heeled caged sandals on which made her maybe five inches taller than us. She had on Jeffree Star: Celebrity Skin and had pierced her Cupid's bow. "LUIGI!!" I screamed. "ITS A ME A MARIO!!" Jackson looked between us and sighed before yelling our friends real name. "SAM!!" We all ran into each other and embraced. Since we had been gone in New York all summer we hadn't gotten a chance to see Sam. Within the first ten minutes all of our friends had joined our blob. My best friend Max joined us and just shook his head at us squealing each other's names. Max was a bit on the round side and loved sports. His usual clothes were shorts, nikes or vans, and a jersey. He had dirty blonde hair and lightly tanned skin. At 8:15 one of the teachers excused us all to head to our first period classes.
