Jackson and I never saw our friends anymore so I had grown closer with Zera and Cathryn. I have been friends with Cathryn for a little while but we weren't close and in the past we had grown awkward when left alone together. Cathryn was an outgoing kind person. She had long red velvet colored hair with brown roots, an adorable face, and the kind of smile that can light up a room. The rest of the week was pretty uneventful. Jackson and I confused our teachers with our "twin-ness", we received homework, and the worst part of the day:lunch. On the first day Jackie and I sat alone with Oliver. The next day we decided to sit with Cathryn. When we found her she was sitting with two other girls named Cassidy and Ocean. Last year Cassidy had been caught shoplifting from the mall and was banned while Ocean had spread rumors and created drama with our friends but we never kicked them out of the group until the end of the year. This year Jackie and I promised ourselves that we would steer clear but Cathryn was friends with them so we sat down.
I looked across the table at the girls and they too had changed over the summer. Cassidy had cut her blonde hair so that it brushed her shoulder and she had discovered how to properly use makeup. She was wearing a Twenty One Pilots t-shirt with matching earrings, black jeans, and converse. She had decorated her blue eyes with natural eyeshadow and wings sharp enough to kill. Ocean's hair was a little longer than Cassidy's and was originally blonde but she had dyed it purple and blue. She was wearing a red hoodie, blue jeans, and black and white converse. We began to sit with them everyday in a place we called "The Hole". Sometimes Zera and my friend Erin would sit with us and we would laugh until we were holding our sides and we had spit out our drinks.
Today was Friday which meant we got out at 12:30. Jackie and I could hang out with our best friends as long as we wanted after school. I was in math cleaning up when I looked towards the door. In the little window I saw Addison pressed up against the glass with Harrison and Max trying to pull her away. The bell rang and I put in my earbuds. I put my music on shuffle and the first song to come up was Cancer by Twenty One Pilots. I walked with my friends to my locker to grab my backpack and Jackie so we could leave this Hell Hole. I was walking behind Max who was clearly annoyed that he couldn't hang out with his girlfriend Sam since a.) didn't bus with us and b.) had a sewing lesson right after school.
When we got off the 9 bus we went to Smiths. We went around the store laughing and grabbing food. Max was riding in a motorized shopping cart and pinning us against walls and singing "Ridin" by Chamillionaire. We got hungry so we bought the food and continue to roam the store. Addison and I saw Harrison and Jackson holding hands so we copied them. We started sharing our food which contained Smartfood Popcorn, Takis, and Arizona (I realize that this is a drink). I hear someone laughing behind us and I turn to see a woman probably in her forties with her husband laughing at us. I was about to say something when Addison dragged me away. I got out my phone to put on some music when I saw the time. It was 1:40. CRAP. The bus would be here in 5 minutes. "Guys! We have to run to the bus stop if we want to make it!" We all bolted out of the Smiths and ran towards the stop. It was 1:44 when I reached the bus stop. The bus pulled over and opened the doors and we were greeted by a man. "Good afternoon. How are you guys?" It was Craig. He was my favorite bus driver and really nice to the kids at our school. We all just nodded trying to catch our breath and sat down. We claimed the back of the bus and started talking until Jackson and I got off.
As August ended and September lazily began I had high hopes for this year. I had made new friends in my classes and would be able to not be so dependent on my main group. Everything seemed perfect until our school trip...
