It had been a month since the "Cathryn Incident". Everything was pretty much the same. I had fallen into a sort of routine: wake up, school, lunch, school, home, fall asleep. Today was Saturday and I nearly cried with joy when I woke at ten.
I jumped on top of the still sleeping Jackie who merely kicked me.
"Rise and shine sleepyhead!" I sang "its Saturday." I held out the last word to truly emphasize what it meant. She shot of bed like a bullet tackling me to the ground.
"Yes! We made it through the week!" We both quickly dressed and ate breakfast. No one was home meaning we could do anything we wanted without parental disapproval.
On the kitchen counter laid a note neatly folded in half that had our names on the front. I picked it up and smoothed it down in an attempt to remove the crease.
"At the shop! Here's twenty bucks and dads truck keys! Be back around seven. If we aren't here when you get back, don't worry, dad and I are just going to a concert. Hmm I changed my mind. I'll give you a fifty. Don't spend it all in one place! Love you guys, Mom."
I nearly laughed out loud at the note.
"Hey Jack!" I yelled
"What? I'm getting in the shower!" She replied angrily
"Got the day to ourselves, dad's car keys, and fifty bucks plus whatever you have up there!" I exclaimed excitedly. There was a pause before she replied.
"Lets pick up Sam and have a girls day. Maybe we could invite Max, Addison, Harrison, Ocean and go to the mall? You call I shower." I laughed under my breath. Nothing like scatter brain Jackson to make your day easier.
I immediately made a group chat.
Avery: Hey guys! Jackie and I have the day free and we're wondering if anyone was up for the mall?
I waited exactly two minutes before a response.
Addison: Harrison's with me rn so we can carpool to the mall.
Sam: Sorry Babe! Can't come, cousins in town.
Max: Fuck yeah! It's been awhile since our last get together
Ocean: I can't either, I already made plans. Rain check?
Avery: Ok. I'm going to remove whoever can't come from the groupchat so I don't have to make another.
Ocean and Sam have been removed from this chat.
Avery: ok so A + H, Jackie and I got my dad's truck. Do you want us to pick you up? Max we can meet you there. For time how about 11?
Almost immediately, everyone texted back saying that my plan was fine. At that moment the shower turned off and I heard Jackie call, "She's all yours Ave!"
I ran up the stairs and told her what was happening. She smiled as she wrapped herself in a towel. I stripped my pajamas and stepped into the warm water.
I washed my body and hair quickly but thoroughly. I stood in the water for a few minutes humming to myself before I turned off the water. When I stepped out, Jackie was already dressed and had her make up done. I realized with a quick stab that Jackson had grown into a beautiful young woman.
I wrapped my myself in a fluffy gray towel as I found clothes. I finally settled on a white dress that faded into orange. I put on white converse, a jean jacket, and a simple brown purse. The dress showed off my small curves and let me move around freely.
I air dried my gray hair causing it to tumble down my back in waves. My skin had become a warm color from the sun and my hair was slowly fading back to blonde. I would have to get it redone soon.
