Ricardo and I were sleeping when suddenly I had a huge cramp in my stomach, and then my water broke. The water gushed out fast, and Ricardo jumped up and asked why the bed was so wet. I started to scream, "My water broke." Ricardo started screaming that we needed to get to the hospital. He packed a bag for me and the baby fast. The months before, Ricardo and I, had done plenty of shopping for the new baby. We bought car seat, stroller, tons of neutral clothes, bibs, and everything else we thought a baby needed but probably didn't. Ricardo's mother and father were rich, and bought more than enough things for the baby. My parents had also bought several things. We had so much things for this baby the room was filled, and we had nowhere else to put everything. When we got to the hospital a nurse put me in a wheel chair and rolled me to an exam room. I wasn't ready to have this baby. I mean I had time to prepare for the arrival, but it didn't seem real until now. Now, I could feel all the pain and cramping, and boy was there a lot of contractions. When we got there the contractions were heavy at first, and then the nurses hooked me up to an IV. After the nurses hooked me up to the machines I could hear the baby's heartbeat. That was an amazing feeling, that I could hear my baby's heartbeat. Ricardo never left my side. I was so elated to have him there. After a couple of hours, the baby still had not come, by that time my mother and sisters had arrived to help me with the birth. I was so happy to have them there, because this was my first baby, and I wanted all the support that I can get. My mother had children, and both of my sisters each had three children, so they were aware of what to do and how to feel. When they arrived, my mother talked Ricardo into going to get a cup of coffee, being as he had been there with me the entire time, and he looked exhausted. When he went to get a coffee, I guess he went out for some air, and lost track of time, because when he returned I was already pushing. My mother and sisters were at my side, and he was upset, because we had not call him to come back. He pushed my sisters out of the way to rush to my side. The doctor was at the foot of the bed telling me to push. After what felt like an hour, but was fifteen minutes, the baby had arrived. The doctor shouted to us, "Would you like to meet your baby boy?" I was so elated I had a baby boy, and I know that Ricardo was happy, because mainly all men wants to have boys first. The nurse put my baby in my arms and I broke down crying. My sisters, my mother, and Ricardo all started to cry. My mother was congratulating me on the good job that I did pushing, because it was my first time, and it didn't take long for me to push. After I held my baby boy Ricardo took him and started to sing to him, and tell him how much he loved him. I didn't know what the feeling I had in my heart was, but in my head, I loved seeing Ricardo take to the baby the way that he did. This was an amazing feeling that had in my heart. We were finally a family. My mother and sisters stayed for a bit longer and then they left and said they would be back tomorrow. My mother told me to get a lot of rest. She warned me to sleep while the baby sleeps. I would take her up on her advice, especially how tired I felt after all that pushing. When they left, Ricardo told me to get some sleep, and he would watch the baby. I had no problem with that and I drifted off to sleep. As I sleep I was uncomfortable in that hospital bed. I hated to sleep on my back, but sleeping on my side made me feel like I was going to fall of the bed. I must have slept for a long time, because when I woke up it was pitch black outside. As I opened my eyes I could see Ricardo still holding our son, and he was singing to him. "Finally, you are awake. This baby needs to eat." Ricardo told me that they had been giving him bottles, so that I could rest. Ricardo went and called the nurse, so that she can help me feeding the baby. This was my first time, and I didn't want to do anything wrong, and hurt my baby. When the nurse came in she helped me pull the hospital gown down on the side, and she propped a pillow up under me, and then she put the baby on the pillow and showed me how to hold him. She showed me what to do to make him come to my breast. I looked down at my baby boy and felt this warm feeling. When people say love at first site I finally understood what that meant. I don't think that saying is for a guy or a girl you think that you love. I believe it is for when a mother meets her baby for the first time, and she considers that babies' eyes. Seeing my son feeding, and looking down into his eyes and telling him that I love him, that was such an amazing feeling. While the nurse showed me how to feed my baby Ricardo went to grab me something to eat. The doctor had told me not to eat anything heavy now. So, I asked Ricardo to get me some soup. While Ricardo was gone, I took the time to bond with my son. I was asleep so long that I didn't get to hold him but a few minutes after he was gone, and now he is all mine. I feed him, I burped him, and I changed his clothes. After that I sang to him, cradled him, and put him to sleep. While he was sleeping, I took my mother's advice and slept while he slept. Maybe about half an hour later Ricardo had returned with my soup. He had gone to the Chinese restaurant around the corner from the hospital and got me a soup there. When he came in he woke me, and tried not to wake up the baby. We talked for a little bit, and then he asked me what I wanted to name the baby. "I want to name him Christopher, because I want his name to start with the letter C. What do you think?" "I love that name, and what about his middle name?" "Well how about Christopher Ricardo Rivera?" "I love it, and I love you. My life felt so complete, and I was in love with my new family. Life couldn't get any better than it is right now.
