All I'm gonna say before is... YIKES and surprise again !

✰✰✰

It had passed a week and the night was rainy, Maya's hours at the diner kept lessening as the days went by leaving her with more time for the clinic. Her blue eyes make it upward when she felt the presence of other pairs of eyes attached to her.

She came in contact with Lucas' green ones, and to her surprise, it wasn't awkward or uncomfortable. It was actually just fine, and peaceful, "sir, do you have a minute to talk?" Maya questions, taking the chance as she realized there was hardly anyone.

He furrows his brows, but nods his confused expression away, "sure," Lucas responds and follows Maya to the break room.

They sit across from each other, and he simply waits for her to talk, "um, before anything, do you like how I work?" She quickly asks.

Lucas chuckles and folds his hands over the table, "yes, Maya. I do, why?"

She sighs in relief and fiddles with her thumbs, "do you think maybe it's time for me to actually work here?" She asks, a hopeful tone attached to her voice.

He pretends to think it over before smiling and opening his mouth to respond, "hmm, okay yeah, you can have a job," he responds and stands from his seat, "is that it?" Lucas questions.

Maya nods, "Yeah. Yeah, thank you. So much," she quickly responds and shakes his hand, standing from her seat as well.

It was rare, Maya wasn't openly jubilant and polite, and Lucas wasn't openly not serious, yet these two were the opposite of themselves when together.

The pair make their way back to the front and watch as Riley enters the door covered in raindrops, "I get lonely, you know," she comments with a cheesy smile when hugging the blonde and walking over to Lucas.

A familiar face to Maya literally walked in right after Riley did, carrying a little boy in a hoodie and rain boots. He runs over to Maya with excitement written all over his face, showering her face with pecks and a one arm hug with the child in between them, causing Maya and Riley to make awkward eye contact as Maya remembered their conversation about him.

He kisses her once again, not minding Riley, Tess, and Lucas, "we found someone, Caleb's getting more time!" He announces in pure joy, going in for another kiss.

Maya's mouth flies open and happy tears stream down her face while the others' expressions were filled with confusion, except for Tess, "someone said yes, someone freaking said yes!" He shouts with a huge grin.

The blonde smiles and reaches for her child, kissing his forehead, "no more tumor," he adds with a sigh in relief following his words.

She sighs in relief as well and reaches for Caleb, a throat being cleared as she does. Maya shuts her eyes as an unexplainable emotion hits her when realizing their conversation was very open to the public, "Nate, you know Tess, and that's Lucas, my boss, and his sister Riley," Maya introduces, Nate sending everyone a nodful greeting.

"This is my son, Caleb, and Nate," she proceeds to introduce them as well, a wave of slight shock hitting the young brunette, while an off looking grin was placed on Lucas's face.

Riley brushes her expression off and nears herself closer to Caleb, "hey buddy, do you like animals?" Her tone playful as she reaches over and tickles his tummy.

Caleb giggles and nods his head, smiling at the brunette the entire time, "that's Riley, bub," Maya informs him with an almost baby-like tone.

Lucas picks up some paperwork, "congratulations, and you guys have a beautiful child. I'll see you guys later," he says before excusing himself back to his office.

Both Maya and Riley wore confused looks as they observed his demeanor, "you should bring Caleb over, I'd be glad to babysit," Riley turns to inform Maya after a few moments of staring.

The blonde smiles and watches as Nate took him back in his arms, "sounds good, I'll see you tomorrow?" She questions.

She nods her head with a smile and watches as the family of three walk out of the front door that belonged to the animal clinic.

Riley makes her way towards Lucas' office and lets herself in. Lucas looks up to meet eyes with her, she sits in front of him and begins to nervously play with her fingers, "did you get a weird vibe from that dude?" She asks.

She didn't want be rude towards Maya by telling him the situation she was in, but she assumed helping him figure it out is better.

Lucas shares a questioning look, "I don't know, he seemed okay, why?" He proceeds to answer with a question.

"I just think he looked a little off. He gave me the violent lover type of vibe," Riley responds.

He thinks about it for a second, but then shakes his thoughts away, "whatever it is, it's none of our business. She's grown and I'm sure she knows what she's doing," Lucas states and continues with his work.

Riley nods and stays silent for a bit, a smile then creeping up on her face after minutes of silence, "you apparently knew she had a kid, why so butthurt when meeting Nate and Caleb?" She curiously questions.

He scoffs and sets his pen down, "I was not butthurt, I just needed to begin my work," he quickly responds.

Riley chuckles at his crimson cheeks and crosses her arms over her chest.

For once Maya's mind was at peace, but of course it wouldn't make sense for it to last.

A random scoff is let out by Nate who lies next to the blonde her considered his, Maya turns to him and sighs, "what?"

They both sit up against the headboard and make contact with each other, "did you see the way that Lucas guy was looking at you?" Anger and jealousy was evident in his tone.

Maya sarcastically chuckles and stands from her position in the bed, "you've got be kidding the fuck out of me. No, I'm not doing this right now," she calmly as possible responds.

"You know, you were doing fine. It's been this way for five years, so I should be used to this, right?" She says with the same false calm in her voice and walks out of their shared room.

She makes her way into Caleb's room and lies down next to his sleeping body, covering themselves with a blanket. Sleep didn't hit her though because her thoughts were eating at her. The questioning thoughts that wondered if Lucas really was looking at her in a specific way, and a little bit of herself hated it all.
