A week had passed since the fire that burned down the building in which Maya lived in, and she had already wanted to eagerly get out of the Matthews' hair. Maya moves fast, Besides, she needed something to distract her mind from Caleb's upcoming surgery so she had began looking for available apartments the second night she and Caleb spent at Riley's.

"Mommy, it's so beautiful!" Caleb comments, Riley chuckling as Maya tippy toed behind her with her small hands covering Riley's brown eyes.

The duo almost crashing down due to the height difference, "now, I wasn't sure if you'd want to, but I'm willing to risk rejection," Maya confidently tells Riley.

"Okay, 1, 2, 3!" Maya counts down before uncovering Riley's eyes.

Maya closes the door, "before you say anything, I already put the down payment, and it has three rooms. Three rooms! And I'm a single mom now, I want to treat my little family, so maybe this is too luxurious, but with your help we can enjoy it!" She explains as quickly as possible with a hopeful grin on her pale face.

Riley begins to laugh with herself, Maya's brows scrunching in confusion as she pulled Caleb closer to her, "what's funny?" She questions with pursed lips.

She giggles once more before calming herself, "nothing, It's j- okay, I think this is the same complex my brother lives in," she informs with a chuckle following her statement.

The blonde lets out a shy chuckle, "right, now what would be funnier would be if he was our literal next door neighbor," she jokes.

Riles smirks, "don't jinx us," she teases.

"Wait, you said you think? You've been to his place before," Maya states.

The brunette sighs, "I don't know. Fancy places like this have very very similar looking hallways and I don't know the number," she responds, putting her hand up in defense.

Both stay in silence for a few seconds before they slowly turn to the front door then back at each other, "should we?" Maya questions, Riley modding in agreement as she understood what she was insinuating.

Riley takes Caleb in her arms and follows Maya out the door, they cautiously walk to their neighbor's door on the right side of them.

They give each other a look before Maya's fist comes in contact with the big modern door, patiently awaiting it to open.

After a few seconds, the door swing open. The girls smile and outstretch their hands, "hey, we're new and wanted to greet our neighbors," Riley informs the stranger who appeared at the door.

The female smiles at them and shakes both of their hands, "cool, we should all go get some coffee sometime," she says with the same genuine grin.

"Sounds good, I'm Riley, that's Maya, and her kid Caleb," she introduces.

The redhead smiles once again, "nice meeting you, I'm Jessie," she informs.

"Likewise, Jessie. Well, we don't wanna keep ya, have a nice day," Maya says before she softly closes the door.

Maya turns to Riley once she does, "you said our neighbors. So is that a yes?!" She excitedly questions.

She smiles and nods her head, "yes, peaches. Now let's hope we're not my brother's neighbors," she teases.

Maya chuckles as they recalled they had a neighbor on the left side of them. The girls make their way over to the last door at the end of their hall.

The door opens as Maya's fist is midair about to knock, the resident's plastic bags dropping to the floor once having to adapt to the sight quickly as they weren't prepared to see someone outside their door.

Riley bounces Caleb as she held him, huffing at the sight in front of the three of them.

"What are you guys doing here?" Lucas questions the girls, picking up his trash.

Maya turns to Riley before turning back to him, "just wanted to meet our neighbor," she states, knowing he'd catch on.

Riley watches her relative and new best friend, chuckling at the sight, "the universe is hilarious," she jokes.

Lucas allowed the girls to take some empty cardboard boxes from the clinic to pack. So both girls were moving everywhere around her room as Auggie babysat Caleb.

"I think we're pretty much done, we just need to pack the little shit," Riley informs Maya as they stood in the near to empty room that was once filled with loads of crap.

Maya looks around, "okay I'll pass it all to you," she says and begins to hand Riley the stuff from the last pile of her belongings.

Her tiny hands go through almost all off it when she catches sight of something familiar. Maya's throat begins to ache as unwanted tears began to well up, Riley takes notice to her demeanor and stops what she was doing.

"What? What is it?" She curiously questions the blonde who held a framed photo.

Pain washed over her as her blue eyes scanned the photo of what seemed to be two happy newlyweds with Riley and her family surrounding them.

Maya sharply exhales, "my mother got married," she quietly comments.
