Riley’s POV:
Ugh. I am so stuffed. Wild boar does not taste as bad as most would assume.
I rest on the cool beach of the campsite, wrapping myself in my blanket, laying my head tenderly on top of my pillow. I must have fallen asleep, because I am roused in the middle of nightfall to see Pan’s face glimmering in the moonlight.
“Be ready in fifteen minutes.” He whispered softly.
“Why?” I ask, my voice hoarse from sleeping.
“You’re the one who told me that you wanted to learn magic, right?” He questioned, raising an eyebrow.
I stand up and roll my blanket into a lazy clump and place it on the ground atop my pillow.
I imagine I have a new pair of clothes on, trying to make them charming to impress Pan. I believed I was wearing an off white floral blouse with pink, vintage flowers all over. I wore deep indigo jeggings and russet colored Uggs. My hair was down and curled, the longest strands of my semi-layered hair touching the bottom of the blouse, with a pink bow that matched the flowers of the blouse holding a small braid on the side of my head back. I wear an antique key necklace to go with the theme of my attire, with mixed metal bangles. This is about the girliest I get, when I’m not forced to wear a dress. I really hope Pan liked it.
I know I have succeeded because he smiles.
“Nice shirt.” He says, and smirks.
“T-thanks.” I stutter, blushing.
My heart starts to flutter and my stomach churns. I really am in love with the infamous Peter Pan.
-----
Peter’s POV:
She looked endearing in that outfit. Riley and I start heading into the dark forest.
“I thought you didn’t like to wear girly things.” I say, as we are almost half way to where I had planned to take her.
“I said I didn’t like sparkles, not floral. Besides, this is about the girliest I get, so don’t get used to it.” She says sounding…scared? I let it go.
“Well, you look lovely.”
Her cheeks turn a bright, rosy pink. Was she blushing? Oh my God, did she like me? I really hoped so.
We go to a clearing in the middle of the woods. Tall pines and deciduous trees line the outside, with a large patch of dew-soaked grass at least the size of half a football field in the middle. The whooing of barn owls rang through the forest, the noisy crickets adding to their lovely tune.
Riley looks up at the horizon and I do too. The stars were really pretty tonight, twinkling up there like little diamonds. I gaze over at Riley and see her beaming, still looking up.
“Look, a shooting star!” She squeals with delight, pointing up to a little streak of light that just passed.
“Make a wish.” I say, slowly reaching for her hand and holding it. She looks down shocked, but firms the grasp.
“I wish…I wish…” She says, pondering what to wish for. But I knew what she wanted.
We look into each other’s eyes, then to our lips, and back to our eyes again. I take hold of her other hand and start moving in. She gets closer, closing the gap between us. We were inches apart from kissing and I began to close my eyes, expecting her soft, pick lips to smash against mine any second, when all of a sudden Riley pulls away, looking uncomfortable.
What did I do wrong?
-----
Riley’s POV:
We leaned in for a kiss, but I felt it this was all happening way too fast. I pulled back, and Peter’s face instantly dropped with disappointment. I felt bad.
“Riley,” He said shakily, obviously trying to keep his tears back, “I know this may sound foolish, and I know you’re probably going to think this is crazy, but I think I may be in love with you.”
I stare into his eyes blankly, stunned. He has feelings for me! Yes! But what do I do?
“Ummmm…” I start to say, not even knowing where to begin.
“I see.” He replies, turning around. I notice his body begins to shake, and assume he’s crying.
“No, Peter. I-I love you too.” I say, putting a compassionate smile on my face.
He smiles too. We both lean in and kiss for what seems like minutes. Peter moves his hands from mine and down to my waist. I cross my arms around his neck and lightly tug his hair. We completely made out for what seen like minutes before we both pulled back. We were both out of breath and giggling happily like we didn’t have any other care in the world.
“So, about that magic lesson.”
