Dumped and Pregnant. That should be the title of the reality show I should be on. Never in a million years would I have guessed that that is how this all would have ended up. I would have never told him if I had known that is how he would react.
It's about an hour later when I finally get back to my house. I go straight up to my room and cry myself to sleep.
Aleks' POV
By the time I got myself calmed down, it was too late to fix anything. So I did what I do best, I got drunk. So drunk I didn't even know the reason for getting drunk in the first place. I go to sleep with a beer in my hand.
The next day at school, Iona didn't come to my class. I saw her at lunch but quickly went back to my room. After lunch I was headed to the office but she was in there so I went the other way.
Turns out the reason she was in the office is because she is getting transferred out of my calculus class and into another one. I didn't blame her. It was the best way for the both of us.
Iona's POV
I take the bus to the mall after school. I go to my favorite store. Rue 21. I pick out four baggy sweatshirts. The farther along I got the more I would start to show so I needed things to hide myself. I pick out three really flowy shirts because those would hide a bump as well. I got to Daniel at the cash register. I hand him my stack of clothes and he rings them up.
"You looked stressed, I'm going to give you forty percent off your entire purchase," He says.
I smile at him weakly. "Thank you Daniel. That really means alot to me right now." I take my bag and leave the store.
Aleks' POV
I'm watching tv when I hear a car pull into my driveway. I get up to see who it is. My mother and sister get out of their SUV. What the heck are they doing here? I go to let them in. "Mom, Alesha, what are you doing here?" I ask them as I lead them into the living room. They ignore my question.
"Aleks you look like crap," Alesha says. I had on yesterday's clothes, messed up hair, and a hangover. I probably did look like crap.
"Did you guys come here just to insult me or is there a purpose for your visit?" I ask them.
This time my mom answers. "Well we saw Iona at the mall the other day and we went to say hello. And when she saw us she just started crying and bolted."
I turn my body away from them so they can't see me. Tears were forming in my eyes. I had hurt Iona so badly and now there was no going back, just no way. I wipe the tears away and turn back to them.
"We broke up," I admit to them. They both gasp.
"Oh Aleks!" My mom gives me a hug. She releases me. "But why?" she asks. I just look at the ground. "Oh okay, I won't make you talk about it," She goes into my kitchen.
"But I will make you talk about it," Alesha says. I motion for her to come into my bedroom so I can tell her about it. After I finish telling her about everything, and I mean everything, this is what she says. "So you've been sleeping with a student?"
"You make it sound like they were just hook ups. I loved her, no, I love her," I defend Iona and I's love.
"So if you love her, then why did you leave her?" Alesha asks.
"That's a great question, and I still don't know the answer," I sigh.
I'm an idiot. I got caught in the heat of the moment and said things I shouldn't have and now I can't fix it. There's no way Iona would ever forgive me.
"Well, big brother, you really have screwed up this time. Remind me to never take dating advice from you," She says walking to my bed and sitting down. The bed spread moves down as she sits. "What's this?" Alesha asks pulling a blue and green flannel from under the bed spread. She holds it up to examine it.
"Well this definitely can't fit you," she says laughing. She looks around and then hops of the bed. She walks to the closet and opens the doors. "Ah ha! You still have all of her clothes," She says looking back at me. "You even sleep with one of her shirts. How are you supposed to move on?" She asks me.
"Maybe I don't want to move on," I say.
"Well you are the one who broke up with her,"
"Ya well I wasn't thinking clearly then, and it was a mistake!" I start to raise my voice. "Okay that's enough, out of my room," I instruct her. She hurries out in a split second. I have never raised my voice at her. She threw Iona's flannel back on the bed. I grab it and bring it to my nose. I fill my nose with her scent. I missed her so much.
I cry like a big baby into the fabric. How could I be so so stupid?
Iona's POV
I needed my clothes back. So I sent Aleks a text.
Me: I'm coming to pick my stuff up. Don't be there. I have your spare key. Once I get into the house I will leave the key.
Aleks: I don't really know how to respond to this other than an "Ok" but I know that you hate just an "Ok" response but seriously, Ok.
At least he was being nice about it all. I hop into the jeep that Jim and Maria left for me and head to Aleks' house. When I pull into the driveway, no one's there. For a split second I was hoping he might actually still be here. But he wasn't.
I take my suitcase out of the trunk and head into his house. It was a mess. Dishes were stacked high in the sink. Laundry hadn't been done. The floors were gross. They needed swept. I head into his room. Clothes were laying everywhere, Clean laundry was stacked on top of his dresser instead of inside it. It would probably take at least two hours to clean it all. I don't know why I wanted to do this for him but I did.
I quickly pack all my clothes into my suitcase. Once that is done I go to the washer and dryer. I take out the dirty clothes from the hamper and stuff them into the washing machine. While the wash is going I start on the dishes.
In the kitchen there is empty beer cans covering the counter top. I open the refrigerator. Nothing but beer inside. Unbelievable. I quickly get the dishes washed and put away. I go back to the laundry. I put the washed clothes in the dryer and then put another load in the washer.
I go into his room and start putting his clothes away in his dresser. I put all his boxers away and then I move on to putting his t-shirts away. When I open that drawer I find the long gray t-shirt that I slept in the first time I ever spent the night here. I take it out of the drawer. I walk over and sit on the bed with it. I bring to fabric to my nose and inhale. The smell was a mixture of me and him. In moments I'm curled in a ball, bawling into the shirt on the bed. Finally when no more tears come, I get off the bed and slip the gray t-shirt into my suitcase. I continue to put the rest of his clothes away.
I fold the dried clothes and put these away also. While the last load of clothes goes into the dryer, I sweep and mop the floors. When I get into the living room to sweep the floor, I spot something on the coffee table. My promise ring. I pick it up. The cold metal feels good in my palm.
A flashback of him giving it to me comes in my mind. Then another flashback of me giving it back to him. The smile that had formed on my face soon disappeared. I put in back on the table and sweep the floor.
Once everything is squeaky clean, I lay my key right beside my ring and start to head out the door. Right before I close the door behind me I look back into the kitchen and out to the living room. This is the last time I would be in this beautiful house.
