I could hear the crowd cheering my name as the football was hiked to me from the quarterback, and made a dash for the opposing end zone.
"And now number 64 Jack Wilson has the ball and he's running towards JD's end zone," the announcer said over the roar of the crowd.
I was sprinting so hard I felt like slowing down, but I knew if I did, I wouldn't make it. I could feel the cold sweat running down my face feeling like ice water.
A large guy was barreling towards me, I reacted by ducking, and pushing up with my right shoulder, as the defender grunted he turned and fell to the ground.
"He just shouldered number 39 Bob Huggins!" the announcer was screaming into the mic.
I kept on running until I made it to the end zone.
"TOUCHDOWN A. SMITH!"
The crowd was screaming and jumping out of their seats. I scanned the cheerleaders all of them screaming my name. I looked up at the clock as it flashed the end of the 4th quarter, with A. Smith High winning 42-21. I saw the team running towards me, and I got swelled up in pats on the back and playful punches on the arm.
"Jack! Jack!" I heard everyone chant my name and it was one of the best feelings in the world.
"Great running out there, Wilson. Thanks to you, we're off to State," praised Coach Ben.
I laughed, "Thanks Coach."
I attempted to squeeze out of the crowd of football players, but they all hoisted me up on their shoulders. Chanting and cheering continued as they put me down. I spot my parents in the crowd, my mom waving and snapping as many photos as she could. I pump my fist at them as the coaches push us towards the locker room.
After changing out of my gear, I haul my bag to my jeep. I cranked it up, but then my smile faded. I couldn't stop thinking about why Chris and Joe weren't at school today and why they wouldn't answer my texts or calls. I shouldn't worry, but something inside me just doesn't feel right about it. I tried to call them again but they still wouldn't pick up.
As I was driving away from the stadium, or the Duck to the locals, and to the restaurant the coaches rented out for us for dinner, I saw a blue flash in the sky.
"What the heck is that?" I mumbled.
I saw it crash a few feet ahead, on the side of the road. I decided to drive up to it, to check it out. As soon as I got out, I felt a sudden surge and had to lean against my jeep.
I tried not to go near it, but when I looked at the meteor, I saw a blue light emanating from inside. It seemed to be calling me. I crouched down, and reached into the blue light. That's when I blacked out.
I woke up sitting against my jeep. I tried standing up, but my head felt like it was stuffed to the brim. The back of my hand hit the metal and it made loud ting. I looked down and saw a blue rock in the back of my hand. I pulled out my phone and tried Chris one last time.
"Uh hello," he finally answered.
"Uh hey bro- I just touched a rock that came from a meteor that crashed in front of my car. Now this rock is in the back of my hand and I think I'm hungover or some crap 'cause I can't drive. Can you come get me?" I slurred out. I heard him and what sounded like Joe burst out laughing.
I mockingly laugh, "Well at least you think its funny. I'm on 14th by myself on the ground, where I could possibly be dying, and you laugh. OH and one more thing, where have you been all day? I had to deal with midterms by myself and my best friends weren't here!"
"Yeah, we'll come get you," he laughed and then he hung up.
I threw my hands up, and grunted, "Didn't answer a single thing."
