When Emily woke up in the morning, it was from the constant ringing of her phone. Trying not to bother James anymore than she already had, she answered it.
"Yeah?" Her voice was groggy.
"You don't need to come into work." It was her friend from down at the bakery.
"Really?" Emily said.
"Because it shut down." Her friend said.
"What?" Emily gasped. "Why?"
"They found sewage leaking through the floorboards." Her friend sounded disgusted. "Eighteen people are out of work right now, including you and I."
"Oh." Emily sighed. "Well, text me with updates, okay? Bye."
"What was that about?" James muttered.
"I'm out of work." She flopped down again.
"What happened?" He looked at her with sleepy eyes.
"Health codes were, uh, not kept up to code." She managed a weak laugh.
"Aw, shit." James smiled and yawned.
"Exactly." Emily replied and snuggled into the blankets.
"No..." James whined. "You took all the blankets....."
Suddenly, his cold hands were pressed against her back. She squealed and whipped around, only tangling herself further in the dark blue comforter. He chuckled and pulled her to his chest.
"Fine." He said. "I'll just smother you in hugs."
"Okay." She yawned and slipped off to sleep.
That was not what he was expecting. James looked down at Emily and felt himself turn red. She was peacefully up against his chest, one hand on his chest. Ein, who had slipped out of the blankets during the night, waddled over and leaped onto the bed again. James patted her head. He yawned and relaxed a bit.
"James!"
"What?" James hissed, looking over his shoulder.
"Sorry to bother you and your future wife," It was Jordan. "But we got tickets to MineCon, and we got an extra by accident."
"Can she come?" James grinned.
"Well," Jordan rolled his eyes. "You might wanna check with your mommy, but we don't care if your girlfriend comes along for the ride."
"When I am not being cuddled by a cute girl," James glared. "I am going to kick your ass."
"You just admitted that she was cute!" Jordan smirked.
"Fuck!" James hissed.
Jordan laughed as he left, leaving James irritated and embarrassed. He sighed and got up. He was still wearing his jeans from the night before, but had thrown his shirt elsewhere. He grabbed a black t-shirt and slipped it on. He headed downstairs to get himself a bowl of cereal. Aleks was up as well, eating what appeared to be the last of the cocoa puffs.
"You eat my cereal?" James glared.
"Yes." Aleks smiled.
"You fuck-face." James sighed. "Where's the fruit punch?"
