Randy, Lucy and I sat on the sofa as Randy worked his way up to telling Lucy the 'story'.
"Lucy. The man you met today-"
"Mister Steven." She interrupted.
"Yes, honey. Mister Steven. He's my daddy. He's your Grandfather. When I was a little bit older than you, my mommy got very sick. My daddy loved my mommy with everything he had. I loved my mommy almost as much as I love your mommy. When I was ten years old, My mommy died. That made daddy very sad. Then, because I look like my mommy, my daddy wouldn't be very nice to me because it hurt him too much to see me as he loved her so much. Then, when daddy was fourteen, your mommy came along and cheered him up." I noticed Randy was getting upset so I carried the 'story' on.
"Mummy and daddy fell in love at first sight. Then, after a year of mummy and daddy dating, daddy was involved in an accident and he...he went to sleep for a little while. Whilst daddy was asleep, mummy was scared that unless she married daddy's Daddy she would never be able to see daddy when he woke up. So she married your Grandfather. He wasn't that old so it didn't look very bad. Then, when daddy woke up, mummy was the first person he saw." As I saw that Randy was okay to carry on, I allowed him to continue.
"Mommy tried her hardest to stay with daddy. Then, when mommy turned nineteen, your grandfather turned really horrible and hurt mommy. He made mommy loose a baby and he made her life horrible. Then, mommy broke up from your grandfather and Daddy and Mommy could get married and have you."
Lucy looked confused "So I'm not allowed to see Mis- Grandpa anymore?"
"I'm sorry sweetheart, I don't want you getting hurt." She looked unhappy.
"It's okay, Daddy." She sighed.

The rest of the evening was just spent watching tv and spending time together as a family. " Mommy? Can you take me up to bed?" Lucy yawned. It was about eight thirty. Lucy didn't really have a set bedtime, as long as she was in bed by nine, it was okay.
"Okay, sweetheart." I picked her up and took her upstairs. She toddled over to her pyjama drawer.
"Okay, which ones tonight?" I asked her. She picked up a set of pyjamas that had unicorns on it. I helped her to get ready and I tucked her in.
"Mommy? Can you tell me a story?" She snuggled up to me as I sat next to her.
"Okay. Once upon a-"
"No. One about how you and Daddy met." I noticed Randy standing outside but I didn't say anything.
"Well, it all started back when mummy was fourteen-ish. It was daddy's first day at his new school. We were in Science class, which is where you learn about what goes into medicines and your body. Mummy and Daddy were paired up to be partners. Mummy wasnt very good at science so Daddy tutored her. Mommy began to have a crush on Daddy. About a month later, Daddy and Mommy started dating." I looked down at my sleeping daughter snuggled up to a teddy bear. I slowly peeled myself away from her so I wouldn't wake her up.

"That was sweet." Randy whispered. I giggled. "I think we need to talk."

"Why would you meet him?!" Randy shouted. He had a look of hurt in his eyes. I hated myself for upsetting him.

"I didn't want to, Lucy gave me that look."

"She shouldn't have met him anyway." His head was in his hands.

"I'm sorry, he just came up to us in bath and body works. He... he asked about you." He looked at me with tears in his eyes.

"I don't care if he asked about me. I don't want Lucy having the same experience with him that we had." I wrapped my arms around him.

"I know you don't. He really wants to be a part of her life, but if you don't want him to, he won't be." I held Randy as he burst into tears. I dried his eyes.

"I love you, Ruby Warren." I giggled and kissed him.

"I Love you too."
