I stretched out and wrapped my arms around a small figure. I kissed the figures hair. "Good morning." I chuckled. I looked down, that wasn't my wife. I scooped the little girl up in my arms.
"Good morning, Daddy." She giggled.
"Do you know where Mommy is?" I asked. She was working on a new project, she was most likely working on that.
"There was a loud crash last night. I went to go find mommy and this man in a hoodie told me to call for my mommy or else I'd get hurt." I handed her my iPad and allowed her to sit and watch YouTube whilst I investigated the house.
I noticed a note on my coffee table.
'Dear Mr Warren,
Hello son. Long time no see, eh? I have your wife and you'll never get her back. This is what happens when you don't let me see my grandchild. If you want her back, pay me five-thousand dollars. Then I'll give you a clue on her whereabouts.
-Steven'
I dropped the note and fell to my knees. I ran a hand through my hair as I tried to hold back tears. Where the fuck did he keep her?! I'd already lost her once, I couldn't loose her again.
"Daddy? What's wrong?" I turned around. Lucy's little head was tilted to the side. Tears formed in my eyes as the little body ran towards me and wrapped her little arms around me.
"Is mommy okay?"
"Mommys gonna be back soon. Can you get my phone please?" She nodded and handed me my phone. Then she plodded back upstairs. I unlocked it and went to Ruby's work contact.
After the first few rings someone picked up.
"Hello, this is the spa. Tami speaking, how can I help you?"
"Tami, Ruby's missing." My voice cracked.
"What?" I heard the rattling of some keys and a jacket being put on. "Stay where you are, I'm coming to yours."There were many different scenarios playing in my head. What if she falls in love with him again? What if she misses his touch and stays with him?
"Randy, c'mon. I'll get Bailey to take care of little Lucy." She picked up a bag and a few necessities. Bailey came over a few minutes later and I kissed Lucy on the forehead and said "Daddy will be back soon. I love you."I started up the car engine.
"He said he wanted five grand. He's keeping her at ransom."
"Do you have it?" I looked down. We'd fallen on hard times recently. Her grandfather had just died so we had to fly out to England. The baby was making her feel sick so we had to pay for emergency care. I shook my head. If I gave him the five grand, we wouldn't have enough money to survive for the rest of the month.
"I've got half of it, but that's all I can spare." I sighed. I wouldn't be getting her back.
"I'll give you the rest. I want her back just as much as you do." Tears pricked in my eyes.
"Tami, you're a saint." I wrapped my arms around her.I texted my dad: 'we've got your money, now tell us where you are.'
I got a message back almost immediately.
'I'm in a warehouse next to the beach. She isn't though.'
