Begin!
I start to button-mash, while Mackenzie is more strategic. I break her first health bar within 30 seconds. She had only gotten through half of mine. I use what she called a super and I wasted it because it didn't hit her.
She uses her super and it nails my character. She starts to celebrate because she had just depleted my first health bar. I get a lucky combo and deplete the rest of her health, winning the game.
"Congrats."
"Thanks. Different game?"
"Different game." Mackenzie agrees. "What would you like from the kitchen?"
"Ummm. Could I have some toast?" I ask.
"Is that all?" MAckenzie stands up.
"And a glass of water."
"So....bacon and a glass of OJ." She walks out of the room. I smile as I select the next game and put it in the disc tray.
While it waits on the start screen, and the bacon was cooking, I look through her bookcase. I see a lot of series. There was The Hunger Games, Divergent and Percy Jackson.
I hear footprints out in the hall. I dive to the floor as the footsteps enter the room. I smell bacon.
"Seriously? Get up." I hear. I stand and there was MAckenzie with a plate and two glasses of OJ.
"What's the second glass for?" I ask. She sets the plate in-between us and sets the cups on a tray.
"Its for me." She says and sits down. She looks at the screen. "Oh, paintball? Not my best but I can hold my own."
We pick up our controllers. "What time is it?" I ask as we get ready to start.
"Six-thirty." Mackenzie replies.
"I think I have time for one game."
"Why?"
"I'm the one that gets everything ready for you, mom and even our lazy brother." I say,
"But mom said she does that."
"Have you ever seen me at the table with you guys?"
"No. I guess not."
"Let's just play this last game." I say, eating a slice of bacon.
"Okay." Mackenzie slowly turns back to the screen.
We play one game and it was quick, I lost. I won the second game and midway through the third, I look at the time. Seven O'clock.
"I need to go." I say putting down the controller. We had finished the bacon in the second game.
"We'll restart the third game tonight." Mackenzie says.
"Alright." We get up and she hugs me. "Wh-What-?"
"Thank you." Mackenzie says.
"For what?" I pull away slightly.
"For everything. I always though mom did it." Mackenzie kisses my cheek.
My hand goes to my cheek. Nobody had ever given me a kiss before. In fact, nobody had shown me affection before.
"Know that you are welcome in this room whenever." Mackenzie says.
"Alright. I'll remember that." I say. I smile at my sister, then I walk out of her room.
