We all walk to the door. Mackenzie, still holding Aubry's phone, and Aubry crowd in behind me as I open the door. Standing on the other side was a delivery guy. He hands me our order. He looks past me and sees Mackenzie, "Hey."
"Hi." She says, her gaze glances up at him. I step out of the doorway. Mackenzie closes the door, The guy's eyes and attitude visibly drop as the door fully closes.
I lead the way to the kitchen. I set the food on the counter.
As Mackenzie was reaching for her food, Aubry slides in front of her, holding out her hand. "What?" Mackenzie asks, pulling back her hand.
"I want my phone. You don't get food if I don't get phone." Aubry says.
"I just want to know who you were texting," Mackenzie tightens her grip on the phone.
"It's not important" Aubry says, her face turning red
"Then you shouldn't have a problem with letting me look." She says.
I start to move each person's order to the table. Mackenzie sees me doing that and says, "You know what? I'm not going to return your phone." she starts to move around the counter, "But I am going to eat."
"No!" Aubry lunges for the phone as Mackenzie lunges to the side, towards the table. Aubry falls to the floor and puts on a pouty face. She turns her sad eyes onto me. "Why would you help her?"
I ignore the question, but instead ask, "Do you want food?" Her pout turns into a nod and a smile.
She stands up and walks over. AS she is taking a seat beside me, she punches my arm. "That's for taking her side." I rub my arm, "But thanks for the food."
I take a seat in between Aubry and Mackenzie, "So... Let's dig in."
