We arrive at the next class, science. We walk up to the teacher. "Hello Mackenzie." He says.
"Hey Mr. Kelly. This is my cousin Nathaniel."
"Hello Nathaniel. Welcome to Science."
"Hello." I say.
"You can sit in Mackenzie's group. If you need help, you can ask her." We walk to the back of the room. We sit down as Aubry walks in.
"Hey." She says as she walks over to us.
"Hey." MacKenzie replies.
Aubry sits down, "How was English?"
"Nathaniel's team won."
"He participated?"
"Knocked me out first." MacKenzie smiles
Aubry blushes, "Wow."
"Okay class, today we are doing a lab." Everyone gets excited. "Groups of two... Go!" Everyone chooses a partner.
"You three can be a group." Mr. Kelly tells us.
"Thank you." We walk over to a lab station to prepare for the lab.
"Today, you will be given two beakers. You have to change the clear substance in beaker A into a red-colored substance. You cannot use red food dye. You have until 3 o'clock."
"How can we do this?" Aubry asks.
"What's the substance in beaker B?"
"Both of these look like water." MacKenzie and Aubry debate how to finish the lab.
I look around and see flashlights on a counter by the wall. I go and grab a flashlight off of a counter. I look at the lens. There was red film over it. I smirk and walk back to the station.
Aubry and Mackenzie were testing beaker B. I pick up beaker A and place the flashlight under it.
"Ow!" Everyone looks over and see a girl holding her hand over her groups beaker, slowly turning the water pink.
"Why is there a flashlight under our beaker?" MacKenzie asks me.
"Trust me. Keep testing beaker B so it wont be suspicious."
"Ok." MacKenzie says, eyeing the flashlight. She turns to Aubry and they go back to testing beaker B.
As Mr.Kelly is walking around, he stops at our group. He whispers, "You are the first group to change your water red." Aubry and Mackenzie turn to me. I smile.
At 3O'clock, Mr. Kelly says, "Time is up." I switch on the flashlight, illuminating beaker A with a red glow.
"Congrats to those that changed the water." The bell rings ending the school day.
"Let's go." MacKenzie puts an arm around Aubry and I. We walk all the way to the dance room.
When we get there, we see all of Mackenzie's teachers. They all look at us.
"Hello." MacKenzie says.
"Nathaniel. We would like to welcome you to our school. We hope that you will stay." One of the teachers say.
"I might be able to but I don't know."
"Have you had any schooling?" Mr. Kelly asks, from behind us. He walks past us.
"No." I say.
"But... You should at least have been home schooled."
"No." I say again.
"Do you mind if we invite your mother-"
"Aunt." I correct.
"If we invite your aunt here, so we can talk to her about your schooling?"
"Sure. Go for it. She won't tell you the truth." I say.
"Well we can try." He says. "We will call her tomorrow. Are you able to come tomorrow?"
A moment of awkward silence then I realize he was talking to me. "Um..."
"I can say that I need him for a presentation."
"Alright, in which case you can go home. See you all tomorrow."
"Bye." We walk out.
"You never had schooling before today?" Aubry asks.
"No." I reply.
MacKenzie opens the door to the outside. "Then how did you know everything we were studying?" Aubry asks.
"I used Mackenzie's notes and books."
"Oh. There was silence as we get in Mackenzie's car. I was in the back while the two of them sat up in front. We listens to music as we made our way back home.
